They really made you feel as if you were a part of their family and took time out of their day to show me around the area and drive me to many different areas all while having really nice conversations.

We loved the outdoor baths looking out the little forest covered in snow. Room was large and comfy. The dinner was amazing. Hida beef was delicious. The breakfast was also tasty. The service was also great. They were very welcoming and kind to us. It feels more personal and private here than other bigger ryokans. Such a lovely memorable experience for us in Japan.

The private onsen was also a highlight of our stay. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast experience so much, the lady who served us was knowledgeable about every dish and answered all our questions, she was so warm and lovely (I wish we had caught her name!) Would recommend 100% for anyone looking for a unique ryokan experience in a beautiful environment.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. Auberge Hidanomori is one of the gems of Takayama. It is a fantastic property, with beautiful rooms and 2 private onsens. Very friendly/helpful staff, and the meals were some of the best we had in Japan. Fantastic pairings!

Offering traditional Japanese-style accommodation with spacious public baths, Yatsusankan Over 6 years old is a 6-minute walk from JR Hidafurukawa Train Station. WiFi is accessible at public areas for free, while the private-use hot spring bath is available at a surcharge. Great kaiseki with local dishes and ingredients. The property and location is beautiful. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.
