The inn was so beautiful and many wonderful qualities. It's location is in the middle of a lively street full of shops and restaurants and a close (though uphill) walk to a temple. The in-room amenities were wonderful: whole coffee beans, a grinder, a coffee pot and cups, a separate teapot and teacups, pajamas, robes, and any necessary toiletries. The provided breakfast and dinner was delicious, traditional Japanese fare with English menus to explain the nightly courses (though I'd still suggest having a translator app). Last, but certainly not least: the baths were incredible. I appreciate that the private baths did not need a reservation and were all themed differently. So relaxing!! All my worries melted away here.

Guests can choose to stay in rooms with Western beds or Japanese futon bedding. The elegant rooms at Kadan Kotohira come with tatami-mat flooring and sliding paper screens. Amenities include an LCD TV, a DVD player and a fridge. Guests can choose to stay in Japanese-style houses, where Ogai Mori wrote his famous novel. We were extremely fortunate to stay in the Choseiden cottage. The very generous layout and views over the garden towards the faraway mountains, the scrolls, the paintings, the wooden furniture of this once tea house, not too forget the private bath (“Onsen”) with its glass panel onto the forest were exquisite. The staff were most helpful and kind. Very warm thoughts go to Reina who brought us our meals and guided us through the intricacies of the local cuisine, while answering with a joyful warmth our relentless barrage of questions about Japanese culture and herself. A stay which will linger!

The design of the Oki Olive guesthouse is exceptional with incredible attention to detail at every turn. It is a beautiful space to relax in with multiple location options to rest like chairs looking out into garden, a tatami floor living room, dining table, bath, and shower. Our host was gracious and attentive and was open to making recommendations for dinner and activities. The tour of his olive farm was an added delight. We were looking for a more rural experience, so the property’s location worked well for us! We used a rental car to get to the property. There is a parking space provided.

Me and my wife toured Japan for our honeymoon and one of our stops was Tonosho, Shodoshima. We stayed at Kikuya Ryokan and couldn't be more happy with our decision. A fantastic location just steps away from the Tonosho ferry terminal, within a 5 minute drive/bus from landmarks such as Angel Road, and last but certainly not least, our gracious host Miya-san. A cozy and spacious tatami room, amenities, yukata, tea, presents and so much more. Miya-san was one of the kindest souls we've ever met and was instrumental in making Tonosho an unforgettable experience. We'll never forget it and are so thankful for her hard work! We'll meet again, one day!

Featuring an outdoor pool and natural hot spring baths on the top floor, Bay Resort Hotel Shodoshima is located in Shodoshima Island. All guestrooms offer great ocean views. Free WiFi access is available at the lobby and in all guestrooms. The staff was super friendly and the hotel facilities was top notch. Really easy to rent a car at the hotel to experience Shodoshima.

A 5-minute walk from JR Kotohira Train Station, Kotosankaku Hiten provides Japanese rooms with traditional futon beds and Konpira Mountain views. Hot-spring baths, traditional meals and massage services are featured. Excellent onsen hotel. It is a good location near the train station, with an airport bus stop in front of the hotel. Easy access to the Kotohiragu. Very helpful and well friendly staffs. Clean room with outside bath in our room is fabulous. Nice dinner and breakfast.
