Everything about this place was fantastic! Very nice owner, who made sure we had a wonderful stay. Free bikes to use. Delicious breakfast! It's an excellent and peaceful location with a beautiful view of the river. The room was spacious and very clean. Would highly recommend staying here if you come to Udawalawe. HOW TO GET THERE: If you're coming by bus from Thanamalwila, insist the busdriver to stop at the busstop of Udawalawe Hydro Power Plant at the mainroad, it's a 30min walk from there. Otherwise the busdriver seems to drop off all tourists at the junction which is 4km away, collaborating with the tuktuks as you have no other option than to take an overpriced tuktuk. If you travel onward to Embilipitiya, the busstop is just a 5 min walk from the mainroad of the accomodation. Turn left and walk to the bridge. It's the starting point of the bus to Embilipitiya, where you can take another bus to the south/Tangalle.

First of all I would like to start from the location, Its right on the bottom of the Udawalawe reservoir, when your staying in "Hantara Udawalawe" a stroll on the Reservoir bund is something you must do, a small walk from the hotel will make you reach the Dam and the sunset is something that will blow your mind and the walk might be amused with the birds and animals you see. the resort is a hidden gem and its shady and full of trees you can relax in the garden or in the private balcony that's in all three cabanas, the beds are very comfortable and relaxing, i did sleep well and the air condition of the room works well. the outdoor shower took my heart, it was like having bath in the nature. the resort surroundings are astonishing and loved the stay and would recomend and will come again for sure. Food was in next level the Grilled chicken was something I enjoyed and the rice and curry was fabulous as well, they make according to your requirement of your spice level, or any request will be honoured with respect. the environment of the restaurant was over whelming. the resort organizes Safari's for a good price and they provide good drivers who knows the park well and what to see in the park, they have a good eye for birds and animals, I recommend a 6 hrs safari than, a 3 hrs safari, as you will have enough time to explore the park and to see more animals. The Staff is very friendly and helpful and they will guide you with recommendations and options that you need for your vacation, they will help you out to pick your food if and will explain them well, transport will be organized by the hotel if required and the price was affordable, if you tell them where your going next they will let you know what to do and how to go. it was a pleasant and a memorable stay and will recommend to any one who's planning to go to Sri Lanka, and most definitely i will come again to enjoy the "Hantara Udawalawe" Hospitality.

Offering a barbecue and views of the garden, green view safari resort is located 8 km from Udawalawe National Park. We had an outstanding stay with Prashansa and her husband in September 2025 at the GVSR. The room (Eagle Family Suite) was very clean and a good size for three adults, with a balcony and ample seating to take in the forest. The serenity and greenery on the property is fantastic (if peace is what you’re looking for). It was great to also laze about in the hammocks in the large garden area they have. And there’s a bathtub in the suite we booked. The food was absolutely delicious and filling (huge portions) for breakfast and dinner (if you decide to eat at the property). The hospitality is wonderful, their motto about guests relaxing and them making things simple really shines through everything they do. They also organised an incredible safari at Udawalawa National Park for us. Amille is a very experienced and knowledgeable safari guide who took us to great spots to find elephants in a relatively dry season when most elephants are hiding. We got really close to some incredible wild elephants thanks to his great driving without disturbing their plans/activities. GVSR is just a few moments from a really amazing Elephant Transit Home as well, which you should try to visit. Don’t hesitate for a second to choose GVSR for your visit to Udawalawa.

My experience at Dhalaya Resort in the Udawalawe area was wonderful in every way! The location is characterized by stunning natural beauty, surrounded by breathtaking views that captivate the heart. The gardens of the resort are incredibly beautiful, filled with diverse trees and plants that create an atmosphere of tranquility and serenity. The service was highly professional, with staff always being warm and welcoming. The rooms were clean and impeccably arranged, adding a touch of comfort. The resort also offers a variety of recreational activities, such as safari trips to explore the wildlife. The hotel provides meals and drinks that guests can take with them on their safari trips. The restaurant serves delicious dishes that showcase the authentic flavors of Sri Lanka in a delightful way. Our family was lucky to book safari with Chill House Safari Resort owner Hashan, that was the best experience we could expect! He knew exactly where to find different species and made sure we got incredible sightings. Every question we had about the animals, he answered with enthusiasm and expertise. Beyond his skills, he was incredibly attentive and caring, always making sure we were comfortable and having a great time. If you're looking for a safari guide who is passionate, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated, look no further! Highly recommended!
