Marius and Erik were the best guides. We learnt so much from them in the walking safari. The staff is lovely. The retreat is divine and has a lovely relaxing area both by the pool and in a veranda. I'd highly recommend you stay here for one night before checking in at their private game reserve for more game drives.

Amazing tents, super comfortable beds and we absolutely loved the outdoor shower(s)! Staff is super friendly! The chef cooked an extra meal for me because of my lactose intolerance, thank you so much for that! By the way the food was delicious! The way to get to the the camp is a bit of an experience with a small car but still possible. You will receive a warm welcome! We didn't expect a room service on our departure day.

Staying at Buffelshoek was one of the best experiences of our lives. It is an unfenced camp, so the animals can roam free through it. We were welcomed by an elephant on arrival. During the day, you can move freely from your tend/house to the main house; at night, the staff will accompany you for dinner. There's no electricity apart from lights in the rooms, but there's hot water, and there's always a breeze coming in from the windows, and when it is too hot, you can always go to the main house, on the sundeck. The rooms are so lovely and spacious, and so is the bathroom. The sunrises you will see from your bed staying here are the most beautiful. You eat with the other guests, and there is a fixed menu, but they are very accommodating and had no problem making vegetarian food for us! The cook is great; we ate very, very well. The fact that it is an unfenced camp also meant that a snake got into the main house one night and that we could hear the elephants scratching on the trees near the houses at night, and it was a little scary. But first of all, the staff took care of the snake with no trouble, and second, for us, the fear was immediately overcome by the awe of being so close to nature. This is such an authentic and well-cared-for place, and we truly loved it. A special thank you to Benson, our fantastic guide and driver who made this experience even more special (we saw all the big 5, tons of animals, even in big groups).

Kapama River lodge is truly the getaway you need and deserve - Staff are amazing, kind, courteous and caring - The kitchen staff catered for all diets and their food was amazing, it was like having fine dining every evening - Our rooms were exceptional (we were lucky enough to have the Royal suite) which had an amazing view and was large and comfortable - Facilities were great, with a well kitted gym and fantastic spa - Game drives were excellent, our ranger was knowledgeable and a constant source of entertaining information. We were lucky enough to not only experience the big 5 but also gain a better understanding of the ecology and flora around the lodge - Location from Hoedspruit airport is almost a stone throw, the airport is literally across the entrace to the lodge.

Fantastic location, beautiful small scale lodge with ultra pleasant and friendly staff. The activities were fantastic, especially the morning game walks. Once in a lifetime truly amazing experience! Every single detail was truly perfect, the highlights were of course the amazing safari, the exceptional staff and superbly delicious food. It was really a 5 star experience with every aspect of the trip fully included and at the highest level. Ryan our game driver was the best - he went out of his way at every moment to make sure we had the most enjoyable experience and it wouldn't have been the same without him. He had great finds of animals and was a wealth of information - we saw the big 5 in our first day! He is funny with a great personality that made the experience even better than I could imagine. Chef Alex - The food was exceptional, we couldn't miss a meal and always looked forward to what he created. The best food I have ever had at an hotel or all-inclusive experience. He was able to customize any meals for my partner who is vegetarian with ease. Songs (our butler) - Really took care of us and made each dinning experience even better, with his kindness and great personality. His wine recommendations were always spot on. Also to mention the heated pool was a major bonus - with so much time spent going on game drives I am sad to say we only got to use it once. The price did seem expensive when booking - but when you consider how many game drives we got to do, the exceptional meals we had and the amazing service it was really worth every penny.

Felt like a „home away from home“ from the first hello until goodbye. Great team, very nice tents, good food and (most important for this kind of holiday) incredible game drives. We saw a lot of animals and it was very nice that they not just concentrate on the big 5 but also told a lot about the bush, the birds and all the other small parts of nature. thanks again to our competent and very funny ranger Edward and the incredible tracker Nicholus.

The safari was great and could see almost all big 5 there and multiple times. Unforgettable experience. Brunch was served every day at 10 am. Was very diversified and included some typical food from South Africa. Dinner was really good as well. Really appreciated the hospitality of the team. Thank you so much Adrian, Richard, Maggie, Shelly, Ruon, Julia, Thomas and the entire Makumu team!

Fantastic food, dining under the stars, in the bush, for both nights we were there, wonderful breakfasts, our own game drive vehicle with driver and spotter (both friendly and knowledgeable) and super comfortable rooms made this a wonderful stay. We also saw 2 leopards, which we'd really hoped to see (my wife's birthday wish), which made for a perfect stay.

Fantastic trackers Themba, Polite and Life who were like magicians conjuring animals from the bush and found us the big5 and more. The camp is very small with just 6 tents which gives it a nice relaxed atmosphere, and the other guests were all lovely. Our tent (no3/Elephant Shrew) was in front of a watering hole which had elephants visiting every day.

Quite a nice destination for international travelers and younger people who want to have a bush experience. For 77 year old South Africans we found the facilities not so user friendly at the Wild Olive Tree Camp. Did not really get to see much of Manyeleti but did have some good elephant sitings. In general game viewing was a bit disappointing but that is the luck of the draw.

Sabi game reserve is quite big with many private lodges...

Sabi game reserve is quite big with many private lodges inside. It is open to Kruger park, so animals are free to roam anywhere. The difference is that the ranger and tracker can actually follow an animal wherever they go (without entering Kruger). It is expensive , but if you can afford it, the experience is quite different. The ranger and tracker that took us for a drive from Umkumbe were great. The ranger spotted a chameleon on the tree, in the dark, under the light beam from the trackers torch, at a distance of about 25m. We have no clue how! Great experience to be able to go offroad in the vehicle and get really close to the animals. A leopard had hidden their kill in the tree, which we went back to after dark, when the leopard had come back. Unfortunately that was the only cat we saw that night. Saw a hippo and a hyena too, but that's just luck when you are out in the bush. A family on the previous night had seen the leopard kill the buck as well. The private Sabi game drive is expensive, and depending on how lucky you get, you might think it is either worth it/or a waste of money.

It was a brilliant experience, in particular the game drives and being out in the wild. The resort is excellent! Tips: No loo on a 3-hour game drive so don’t drink too much before heading out. For photographers - consider using two cameras - short lens and long lens ones. Saves having to switch lens if you have two cameras ready. Speed if reaction is required to capture some shots.

I am South African and I was bringing my family to see where I came from and experience the bush. This place was perfect for a family . They rooms for families are excellent, giving everyone enough space and the beds where very comfy. There is no TV - but there is bush TV - each day elephants, warthogs, various species of buck, zebra etc came and spent time out the front of our deck. We sat 1m away reading a book. We go so close it was wonderful and the kids got to experience the beauty of watching an animal relaxed and happy in their own environment. Andre and Nicholas were amazing guides who were patient and funny and taught us a lot about the animals and the environment. The food was amazing and you never felt like you wanted or needed more. Pretty much everything was made onsite. The breakfast was beautiful and the Boma experience was lovely! Thank you to all the team at Simbevati River lodge for making my family’s introduction to Africa such a wonderful memorable experience! And the animals - well we saw the big 5 in less than 24 hours and because the guides know their stuff we had plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with many of Africas famous and less famous animals. The highlights were the Lion and Leopards and of course the dear family of elephants with tiny babies and also the baby hyenas! You will not be disappointed at all !

A fantastic private lodge with a beautiful rooms and tastefully decorated. The host Ian is outstanding as a person. If you are there especially for the hide photography I would recommend 4 days. We were unlucky with the two days we stayed in terms of sightings but that all changed the day we left. Hence would recommend at least 3 if not 4-5 days to better your chances.

I paid 5,700 Rand for 3 evening drives in the reserve each lasting around 3 hours. I've been on many a game drive in the area over the years and when game spotting I am optimistic and realistic at the same time. I saw a 3 lions and a leopard along with other animals. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate my overall experience as 6. If I were to travel to the area in the future I would book 1 drive and concentrate my game viewing in Kruger Park.
