The location is away from the hustle and bustle of central Sapa but easily close enough to visit the town for dining and shopping if that is where your interests lie. I had arrived early morning from the night train and arranged for spa treatments first thing since check in time is not until 1PM. The massage and facial were heavenly after the bone-shaking train trip! Highlights at SCH include the beautiful gardens that provide many of the vegetables and herbs that are used to create healthful and delicious meals. The views are spectacular from the many sitting and resting areas as well as the very comfortable rooms. The entire property is tastefully decorated with local art and artifacts. The staff and owners act as one family, and everyone is very attentive to the needs and requests of the guests. As mentioned, the food is amazing, and I had a ginger cocktail that was SO delicious I can’t wait to try to replicate it at home. The staff offered several options for guided walks and as a solo traveler, I was happy to be paired with another couple. Beautiful scenery and relaxing weather. But, it's best to make sure you visit during the non-rainy seasons to avoid excessive fog and unexpected rainfall. We visited the moana cafe, glass bridge, ban mong alpine coaster and explored the city center. All these locations are a must visit to anyone visiting Sapa. This was our second trip to Sapa. Lao Cai is a frontier town and as such, has a quite quirky feel to it. There is not a whole lot to do per se, apart from visiting a couple of pagodas. I do like the vibe there and there is some really good Vietnamese food available.Guest review byHannoCambodia - 8.0

Very difficult to find your way there, all homestay/hotel owners refuse to provide information and collaborate only with specific companies. English guides limited but a guide named Thao made our stay a nightmare. She was trying to push lunch and other side services, once she realized we didn’t want that, she stopped any guiding and intentionally destroyed half of one day and the whole second day by acting simply as a side person on the trip, not providing absolutely anything. The hoteldesapa is always busy, so you should book early. We planned ahead and reserved our room three months in advance, which gave us a complete and comfortable stay. Many travelers who arrive and try to book at the last minute often find no rooms available, which shows the hotel’s appeal and service quality. The rooms are clean and airy with beautiful views, making you feel relaxed from the moment you step in. Mountainous area famous for plum. It's called the white valley because during the spring the whole area is covered by plum flowers. So it's best to visit in early January. Otherwise, summer is a good time for plum picking. I had an enjoyable experience picking plum myself and brought lots of them home. I was lucky to visit during the weekends when they had annual horse racing competition. Really memorable. They also have weekly Hmong flea market on Sunday, you can eat local food and see ethnic people trading. Riding motorbike and looking at the mountain was fairly enough for me. I only stayed Saturday night for the Sunday market but wish I’d stayed Friday night too to see the buffalo market on Saturday morning. Get up early (~6am) and go to the market while it’s bustling with locals rather than waiting until the tourist buses arrive (from ~9am).
