We came for the Star Train and were not disappointed by the trip. Definitely check out the Nevada Northern Railway when in Ely. They offer a number of different train rides, and the self-guided walking tour is also worthwhile. The Star Train is especially lovely, taking passengers out to the desert at night to a star viewing area, with telescopes and accompanied by professional astronomers. Beautiful.Guest review byIRENEUnited States - 10.0

What a lovely and clean place right next to the National Park. We even caught the Perseid meteor showers. Staff were very kind but seemed overworked as one person was doing all. Excellent cleanliness and room as described. For the price, it was a spectacular value.Guest review byAnonymousUnited States - 8.0
We love to visit Ely. We love exploring the desert.
We love to visit Ely. We love exploring the desert. The train is awesome. The jailhouse was better than we expected with great restaurants. We will be back again. We had fantastic steaks at the jailhouse steakhouse. The smash and grab for breakfast was great.Guest review byrobinUnited States - 8.0

Baker is on old town with many closed businesses and some rundown and abandoned homes but the people in the General Store and motel were welcoming, helpful, and pleasant. There are about 10 motel rooms in town and no grocery store. Most people visiting Great Basin National Park either camp or drive great distances. There is one restaurant, Mexican food.Guest review byHunger - 10.0
Quaint small town.
Quaint small town. If you need to stop while heading north or south, this is the town to choose. The town has all the conveniences required for a car traveler along with a cute little small town feel in the old historic downtown area.Guest review byJosephUnited States - 10.0
The park itself is lovely, but there isn’t much in Baker.
The park itself is lovely, but there isn’t much in Baker. I’d recommend Sandra’s taco truck for excellent tacos and burritos. We also enjoyed a short stop at the archeological site which is theorized to be a Fremont village with solstice alignments ala Stonehenge. Who knew? Baker is a good choice for a base to visit the National Park. While in the area, I’d also recommend looking for wild horses over the borders in Utah and doing the Success Loop drive through the mountains. We found the horses just past Pots Sum Pa spring. The Success Loop runs from Cave Lake State Park to the town of McGill, north of Great Basin. In the last third of June, we saw multiple fields of wildflowers along the road and and framing gorgeous vistas.Guest review byTracy Meints FoxUnited States
