We had a lovely stay at African Bungalows in Nungwi! The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and it was great to see the owner around, always making sure everything was just right. The breakfast was excellent—fresh, delicious, and with something new to enjoy every day. The serene atmosphere made it feel like an oasis in the middle of Nungwi, perfect for relaxing and unwinding. We loved our 10 nights stay. It is a really cosy hotel, not too big, so for our honeymoon stay was just perfect! We loved the food, the beach, all inclusive drinks, our cute bungalow with terrace facing the ocean! The whole place needs updating, sure - some maintenance, paiting or upgrating - but the first impression of the hotel and our room, was amazing. Hotel has great vibe, with beautiful flowers and plants all around. Open concept was just great! We liked the gym, it is very small but most of the times we were alone so we really, really enjoyed it! The whole team working in the hotel is amazing! They work really hard to provide excellent service for all the guests.

We spent our honeymoon I this hotel and everything was outstanding. Clean rooms and facilities, very friendly staff who are adaptive and flexible to meet all your needs. Food was great, option to eat at the beach. The place offered various activities during the day/evening so you can't get bored. Tried the SPA (couple program) which was good value for money. Enjoyed the overall 'happy' atmosphere that is all around at Stone Town, you feel perfectly safe, everybody is friendly, nobody is harassing you. Typically enjoyed walking through the narrow streets of Stone Town, sniffing up all kinds of scents.

The beach is beautiful and the water very warm.

The beach is beautiful and the water very warm. Because of the strong tides there's only water in the morning and the afternoon but it makes the beach very interesting and beautiful and gives the oportunity to walk far out and find seashells and starfish. The only downside to the beach is the many very insisting sellers who make it impossible to go for a walk without being approached.

A peaceful and welcoming town with a strong sense of community and a safe, relaxing atmosphere. We stayed in a peaceful part of town, where there were noticeably fewer street vendors selling beads and souvenirs compared to other areas. This made the atmosphere even more calm and relaxing, allowing us to fully enjoy the local charm without feeling overwhelmed.

Matemwe was nice - the beach part.

Matemwe was nice - the beach part. Sad to see the poverty behind the gates of the hotel. The tides were a bit different from what we have expected as the water would leave the beach at 9am and return around 5pm. If you did not make it to swim early in the morning, you missed it. We took a reef walk which was beautiful, saw a lot of see creatures, and that was very amazing experience. Also took a boat tour to see the sunset - it was worth the trip. Did not like how the locals would just stop on the beach and start shouting at you to buy smth. Also the part of the hotel beach is not segregated in any way, which does not give you a privacy enough. The food was amazing though - the hotel goes much beyond - and all day brekfast concept was amazing.

Kendwa beach was definitely the best beach compared to Nungwi, especially the south part. Even in low tide it was easy to take a swim. Also the beach here is wider and feel less crowded. As on the complete stretch there were many people trying to sell you stuff but on the south part not so many ”permanent” sales people other than the ones having sheds. The Maasai roaming around are friendly but just say no with a smile and most will not be persistent in their effort to sell you something..

This is not a touristy location... it is off the beaten track... a village, by the sea, with an increasing number of resorts being added. I hope it does not lose its charm to the crowds. This is a quiet, special place.

Michamvi is located approximately 65 kilometers from Forodhani, and the journey can feel quite long—particularly if you have just arrived in Zanzibar. The drive is somewhat uncomfortable due to the condition of the road, which consists largely of worn, uneven tarmac. Additionally, the area lacks local street food options, leaving nearby hotels—most of which are high-end and expensive—as the primary dining choices. As someone who genuinely enjoys the rich and flavorful cuisine of Stone Town, I found the food in the area to be rather bland and not reflective of its price point.
