A very interesting convent in lovely countryside. We could explore the historic building. We were here in November so didn’t get chance to use the swimming pool but that looked worth coming back for. There are a couple of great walks laid out in the Convent estate. We had a good dinner in the restaurant. The room and breakfast were excellent, staff very helpful. We have already recommended it to friends who also travel in the area.

We had an absolute crush on Hotel Cicioso in Évora. It’s a charming boutique hotel that has recently opened, and everything has been thoughtfully designed with great taste and refinement. The architecture is stunning, blending authenticity and modern elegance beautifully. The interior decoration is exquisite, with every detail contributing to a warm and soothing atmosphere. The welcome was flawless — the staff are incredibly kind, attentive, and always ready to help. We truly appreciated the peacefulness of the place, the comfort of the rooms, and the overall quality of the facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wholeheartedly recommend this hotel. An absolute gem. This is like a little Oasis just outside town. Staff were wonderful, the design is beautiful, breakfast was delicious and generous and the area in front of the apartments were perfect for our 10 month old to sit on the grass and play. Also beautiful grounds to walk around in. A short drive to town which is also recommended. The farm just along the road is also a must do if you have small children!

The hotel and outside spaces were impressive, as was the location - very convenient for the admittedly small town, with easy parking nearby and a good restaurant opposite. We particularly appreciated the guest lounge and its stove, as it was cold when we stayed (New Year period). We will definitely stay again.

Evora is a very intetesting city, but access for disabled people is abysmal. Everywhere is cobbled, there are no drop offs on curbs and access to shops is usually up a high step...do not visit with a mobility scooter as we did.

An interesting town, the centre enclosed within city walls.

An interesting town, the centre enclosed within city walls. Some very pleasant squares, small and large. The castle is worth a visit, with views of the surrounding countryside and de Graça fort to the north. Entry tickets cheaper for over 65s, which is often the case in Portugal. We loved the Igreja das Dominicas with its unusual shape, amazing tiles and wall paintings. We wanted to go to the Museum of Modern Art, but it was closed for renovations. Went to the Fort of St Luzia instead, which was very interesting, particularly with its links to the Duke of Wellington and the Peninsular War. Some very good value restaurants and cafés. We went to the restaurant at our hotel (São João de Deus) and thought the food was excellent quality, with amazingly low prices for some delicious starters in particular.

The place is authentic and the castle perhaps the best in Portugal, not too big or overwhelming. Then there are the historic walls, a history lovers paradise. And don't forget the food, first rate. This is the "real" untouched Portugal.

Not much in the town itself except for the unique tapestry...

Not much in the town itself except for the unique tapestry museum - a must see. And an outstanding restaurant on the far southern (?) edge of town. There are easy excursions to two nearby castle towns well worth seeing.

History, history, history, the perfect place for a walking...

History, history, history, the perfect place for a walking tour with so much variety, and very good food plus friendly helpful service. The only drawback was the bus station, where a begger seems to hang out asking everyone for money, and the absence of an obvious persons selling bus tickets. You have to know to go to the bar to buy a ticket.

It took longer to retrieve our rental car from Lisbon than we expected, and we stopped in Evora on our way to Monsaraz. We arrived late and left in the morning, leaving little time to explore. A full day is probably enough, which we intended to have but misjudged the time navigating the transportation. Driving through town was an adventure with the very narrow and steep streets. The restaurant was very traditional, and felt authentic. We would recommend a stop in this charming old town.

Very cute Historic Fortified Town. Its very well cared for, very easy to access and visit. Never forget that this is a town on the top of a hill, so there are a lot of walking up and down to visit it properly. We enjoyed a lot the experience. There are only a few restaurants, really just a few and I think they only cater to the tourist and, we followed the google maps rating to choose one and we did very bad. The food was not good at all for the prices charged, So I think in terms restaurants there they just try to take advantage of the tourists visiting , charging high prices and offering very plain not well prepared food, a tourist trap. We found a great excellent coffee shop by the old castle entrance (not the city main entrance). The nice lady served great 5* coffee.

The location is central to many local excursions...wine tasting, great local food, historic sights. The accommodation was clean, bright, well stocked, and relaxing. Alex was a charming host and provided many starters to make our stay special. Thank you for an unforgettable stay!
