From the Jauja airport, it is a 20 minute taxi ride. The hotel is in a rural area and it was perfect for what I wanted. The staff was very kind and accommodating during my stay. The grounds were perfect for walking around a bit while getting used to the altitude. I even met an alpaca! I spent a lot of time resting in my room and they have very good wifi. Breakfast was good, I ate good lunches at the restaurant as well. It is an older property but the room was very clean and there was plenty of hot water in the shower. The man who welcomed me was absolutely lovely and went out of the way to show me around and help me in any possible way to make my stay comfortable. He also spoke perfect English, which made it even easier for me. The room was comfy and had an incredible view over the entire city and the jungle valley La Merced is located in. There are many attractions in the city of Huancayo, it has a very nice colonial-style square, you can take walks, visit lagoons, climb the Nevado Huaytapallana. It is close to Jauja where there are trout farms and delicious food. My favorite dish is Patasca, it is a very tasty soup. Many Peruvian writers talk about Jauja in their books because it is a little gem in the heart of the Andes. The town is full of history and the places to visit (lakes, ruins, city center) are so peaceful and beautiful. You can find different types of Peruvian dishes all over town. I had breakfast in the town’s market and it was very affordable and delicious. Lastly, the people of Jauja will welcome you with open arms. One thing to take into account is that Jauja is located at 11089 ft. above sea level so take it easy when walking, running, etc. (altitude sickness may happen if not careful).Guest review byMarthaUnited States
