United KingdomWanaka is an amazing place to stay. I get the impression that most travellers use Wanaka as a stop off to the Glaciers like we did. If i was planning my trip again I would spend at least a few nights in Archway motel, Wanaka.
The hosts Jacqui and Mark can not do enough for you, they really are the best hosts you could wish for. Mark went out of his way to help my wife and I reschedule our trip to the Glaciers following the road closure at Hass. I can not think him enough for his reassuring assistance.
Add to the above, the chalets are extremely high-end, comfort, quality, home from home. My wife and I would stay here again and for longer if we get back to NZ.

The location is unbelievable. We had the tent with a bbq right in front of the lake - at the price of a Motel. It’s a once in a lifetime setting there, getting up early, seeing the sunrise and then having your breakfast done on the Barbie… unbelievable. We loved every second there. We never stayed anywhere close to this in terms of unique flair.

We had lovely 2 bedroom unit with my husband. Very nice big kitchen, living room, one toilet,shower - very bright and clean. On the ground floor, we did not have a view, but you go out and you have it all around you. Nice as not in the heart of the center, still walking distance. Definitely will come back next year with our friends.

Really great two-story spacious apartment, which allowed my family to really spread out for the first time during our trip to New Zealand. Walking distance to the lake and town. Views of the mountains from the second floor balcony.

Super comfy, we are a family of 2 kids, we stayed during winter for one night and it was so cozy! Kitchen has everything you need for a quick dinner. Beds nice and comfy. We just missed more games for the kids in TV lounge.

We were in Wanaka to hike French Ridge.
We were in Wanaka to hike French Ridge. Unfortunately, the snow line was too low and deep, so we made the call to turn back. It was a 30km day, but we loved being in Mt Aspiring National Park. The following day we hiked Mt Isthmus, a definite leg workout but the views made it worthwhile. Some of our party then took a dip in Lake Wanaka to ease the muscles!
There are plenty of food options and bars too within easy reach to suit all pockets. Such a fabulous part of the country.

We spent two weeks in NZ driving from Queenstown across to the east coast, made our way up to Christchurch then slowly across to Arthur's pass the down the west coast back to Queenstown to fly out, I wish we had another week just to spend at Lake Hawea

Great location easy to get to Wanaka but not in the middle of the all the tourists and busyness you get for a long weekend in a holiday spot. Right on the banks of the Clutha River, easy areas to walk and enjoy. Picture perfect location.

Very Pretty,lots of places to have a coffee or drinks,enjoyed a drink on the waterfront looking at a amazing view,also scenic drive to Lake Hawea and went as far as the lookout when the road takes you to top of Lake Wanaka.Would of loved to had more time to do some short walks.

Lake Hawea is much less crowded and busy than Wanaka.
Lake Hawea is much less crowded and busy than Wanaka. The water is clear and beautiful, the view up the lake is magnificent and there is a great pub and store. There are good bike riding and walking tracks. Who could want for more?

Wanaka is a great little town.
Wanaka is a great little town. Primarily a stepping stone to the ski resorts. However we did not go the the resorts. We did do a day trip to Blue Pools and the nearby waterfalls (Thunder falls). the drive was scenic and the pools were well worth having a look at. Thunderfalls is certainly a photo spot as well.
We circled back to wanaka and had a look at the Wanaka tree. Its a great picture just prior to sunset as the branches of the tree have and orangy color to them.

Beautiful area to walk or bike in.
Beautiful area to walk or bike in. There are wildlife on the lake. You can sit/sun bathe on the beach albeit a stony beach. Or you can just stroll along the shore area. When the sun is shining it is glorious whatever you chose to do.
