The view is as amazing as it appears in the advert, and the bed was super comfortable. Helen is an amazing hostess, she made us feel so welcome in her special home, cooked a delicious breakfast (bread straight from the oven!) and shared lots of great advice for our trip.

The location is incredible, just off the riverbed! Make sure to head for a short walk there at sunrise. Rooms are clean and cosy, bath and beds are comfy. In a place that is otherwise rather secluded and barren, you get everything you will need. They also provide a lovely, wholesome breakfast which is much required when exploring the area. The bar menu is plentiful too and well served.

The entirety Lodge is so lovely and clean! I had to leave as as soon as I had sickness but wish could have stayed 😢 The people in the Lodge are very kind and thoughtful. This is the place where you should sleep over in Arthur's national Park!

This road trip was the most picturesque and unique of our 3 trips to new Zealand. The views of the snow capped mountains beside lakes and rivers, along with sheep and cattle grazing in green paddocks, along with pine forests made this a drive to remember. Vastle Hill/Kura Tawhiti Conservation area is worth a visit to walk around the limestone rock formations. The town itself is small but interesting. The walk to Devils Punchbowl is a must with the most stunning waterfall we have seen anywhere. The 800 or so steps are easily manageable unless you have bad hips or knees

Iconic historical building in an iconic location.
Iconic historical building in an iconic location. The rooms are furnished period appropriate, the restaurant contains a collection of historical curios. The couple running it is very friendly and approachable. The food is hearty kiwi home style cooking.

Beautiful scenic retreat, with waterfall and true NZ country vibe. Unfortunately, I saw the host yelling at a guest who arrived at night, for asking where the kitchen was located. I felt surprised, because the host was polite to me. I would still recommend that you stay here, but maybe just read the provided map if you're arriving at night!

It's a while since I had last stayed in the village which was magical in the winter sun. I loved exploring all the historic sites as well as places I was familiar with from my childhood. I walked the length of the village and then followed the Arthur's Pass Track to Jack's Hut and then into the Bealey Valley. There are plenty of walking tracks to choose from depending on how long you want to walk. There were fewer birds in the bush than I would have liked. The cafes were good and I could have joined a church service as well!

Very warm welcome from owner. A roaring fire, owner who made us dinner. The room was fab, a bed to die for. Clean ensuite bathroom with a sweet shower. Our own private lounge with massage chair and large screen TV. Tea and coffee provided.
A wonderful place to stay.

As stated before have to tick above boxes to complete the survey even though we didn’t stay. I tried replying to your email but it was returned undeliverable.
Jackson’s Retreat is a tranquil motor camp set in beautiful bush but people need to know the distance from nearest food facilities and there is no cell phone cover.

Spend at least 2 days there.
Spend at least 2 days there. We spent one night but could have spent 4-6 days based on the number of short hikes to be done there. Visit the NP office first to help decide what to do with your time.
Very scenic and the tiny village has 2 cafes and a small store. Bring your own foods and supplies.

Great for Railfans.
Great for Railfans. Trains can be heard close by in the night. Could hear falling water and night birds. Guests have a separate lounge for tea and coffee making. There are a lot of antique and old world features and displays here. All in all, a comfortable place to stay, considering it is in the middle of nowhere. Great Hikes can be had as well.
