Upon hearing about the prospect of staying at Lochmara Lodge upon arrival at Picton from North Island, we jumped at the opportunity. Definitely no regrets, as although the lodge is not high end, everything else makes up for it. This was one of our top highlight stays across 5 weeks in New Zealand! We felt so welcomed by staff, before and during our stay! Prior to booking, all questions, including transport via water taxi, were quickly and diligently answered. Upon arrival at the water taxi, we were warmly greeted and helped by staff to ensure a swift check-in ahead of schedule, and the same was experienced upon arrival. The place is set deep in the Marlborough Sounds, and it offered the most amazing scenery and nature all around. It was breathtaking, especially as the sun set and first thing in the morning. The fact that it cannot be reached by car made it extra special and unique. We had two rooms, one water facing and one facing the back-end (this room was perhaps a bit sad). The room was small, quite simple but we did not spend much time inside, as there was so much else to do! We loved the chill and vibe of the place, and the level of activities available to us during our stay. We did hiking, the feeding time activities with the pigs, goats, birds etc on site (we loved the insight provided with all), kayaking, paddle boarding, the games and general relaxation. We also visited the underwater observatory - which was super interesting - and great interaction and insight into the creatures of the New Zealand waters. The restaurant offered an all-day service, including breakfast and dinner for us overnight house guests. The staff was always friendly and welcoming, and the food and drinks were of a high quality. I think we could have easily done a third night at this place, and it provided such a great introduction to what more to come during our time on the South Island.

It's paradise! Wonderfull place with a great beach where you can spot stingrays. You can go fishing, on a paddleboard/canoo and walking. The rooms where authentic in a good way. Neat and tidy and we had an amazing view over the bay.Jann, Trevor and the other staff were sooo nice. It was a fantastic stay.

The cleanliness of the holiday park was exceptional - the rooms, bathrooms and kitchen! We were lucky enough to be greeted by Judy upon arrival and extremely lucky to be given an upgrade. The pillows were also the best pillows we had had in our 10 day travels abound the South Island!

Cosy, nice, new and spacious! wished I could stayed longer. love the Wi-Fi strength provided and the toiletries fragrance fabulous. balcony view of the yachts is beautiful… Washer and dryer clean and new, perfect for washing from the clothes we wore at the north island.

Location was excellent. The friendly staff at reception were very welcoming and easy to understand. Our room was just what we needed for the night. We wish we had had more time to stay longer and enjoy the facilities that were available

My wife an I were amazed at the service and the quality of our stay. The room was awesome and comfortable to stay in and clean to a high standard. Would recomend to freinds and family to stay here without a hesitation

I've been tiki touring the south island for 14 days and this place was the first one that had ice cubes in the fridge/freezer..My gee tees slice and ice was bang on.. Top points for that.Others could learn from that..

Loved the Beachcomber, the location was perfect with a lovely view over the Marina. The bed was comfy, and the room size was generous. Really great place to stay, would recommend highly 👌

Everyone was so kind, easy check in. Room was clean, beds are amazingly comfortable. The cleaners are so nice and understanding about when you want them in to service your room

Exactly what was needed - it my second stay here and once again it was immaculately clean with great facilities. Would definitely use again
