Since there are no taxis in town my husband and I had such a hard time walking to the hotel from the bus station with two large suitcases. The manager Justin Ludlow stepped right up and agreed to bring our suitcases down to meet us at the bus station when we were leaving town after we had shopped and had lunch. So kind! Thank you Justin!

Service was impeccable. You can immediately tell that all the staffs were genuinely delighted to have you at the lodge and would want it to be the best experience for you. The rooms are very well equipped and very comfortable. Views were stunning. There's in room heating and even the floors and bath rooms are heated. It was a nice and cosy night stay. Our trip was cut short due to bad weather but that wasn't a problem. We got a refund and no further questions asked. Theg certainly set a sky high benchmark in customer service and experience .

Great little town with great food.

Great little town with great food. Lots of scenic opportunities to enjoy, walks for the adventurous and for those who want a stroll. My elderly parents loved the Lower Kepler walk - we just did 40min in, turned and 40min out each spare day. This is also very sheltered in the wind or rain, so is a good wet day option. Remember to walk around the Little Lake Te Anau in the village park, then you can tell your friends you walked around the whole lake! Miles Pies or Fish & Chips by the lake!

Tranquil town away from the touristy hubbub of Te Anau but within range to catch the tour to Milford Sound. The Church restaurant served excellent meals at a reasonable price. Probably best suited to tours to Doubtful Sounds, but we did not mind the 20 minute drive to Te Anau.

Manapouri is a breathtakingly beautiful area with a quiet restful atmosphere. There is a lovely restaurant nearby and other food outlets. Lots to do in the area too. There are the day and overnight trips to Doubtful Sound, a stunningly beautiful area that will blow your mind. You do need to book ahead for these trips. There is also glow worm caves, alpaca farms, Kaykaking, tramping and more. Do your research and enjoy an amazing time in Manapouri.

We drove our hire car from Queenstown and stayed just the one night as we had a Tour booked the next day on the boat. We enjoyed the drive and the stunning scenery on our trip to Milford Sound; however, if you are short on time, you can FLY straight out and do the Boat cruise in half a day. If you drive down- it's an ALL-DAY event and that is why we opted to stay overnight and travel back to Queenstown the next day. There is only a CAFE in the town for quick food and coffee etc... There were limited places to pull up on the trip to have a meal. Lots of scenery and a long drive but enjoyable if you like car trips?

Stunning area, Lake is gorgeous, walks along the lake, heaps of accommodation to choose from. Milford Sound, is only 2 hours away. So Te Anau is a great stopping point for accommodation. Manapouri is a short drive away as well. Plus Te Anau is close to some popular Tramps, Kepler, Milford and Routeburn.

Manapouri is a very small, lakefront town that has a beautiful view of Lake Manapouri and the mountains beyond. It also has a fantastic cafe/bar/restaurant called The Church, which I thoroughly recommend. However, don't stay at the Manapouri Lakeview Motor Inn if you can avoid it.

Staying in the Sound is special - it is a very short drive (minutes) to the cruise departure points. It's about 2 hours drive otherwise from the closest town to the national park. You are immersed in the environment and you need to be flexible in regards to weather - we had several road closures (can't leave the park), rain and significant snow fall at the Homer tunnel area. The Lodge did a good job of communicating the various conditions.
