CanadaEverything was lovely and the views from the unit were amazing. Our bedroom was great with a comfortable king bed and great shower/bathroom. Everything was very clean and the hosts were very friendly without being intrusive. We were the only guest so had the common area to ourselves as well and enjoyed the excellent included continental breakfast. Highly recommend The Salty Bushman for your stay in The Catlins.

Beds and couches were very comfortable. Bathroom was great. And the views of the ocean from both the living room and the main bedroom were nothing short of stupendous.

United KingdomJenny was so very welcoming (I didn't have the opportunity to see Mike but I'm quite sure he would have been too!). Wonderful comfortable unit with sea view. Couldn't have asked for more. Very handy for exploring the Catlins but I would recommend to also just take the time to relax at this very special place.

GermanyThe apartment is beautiful, big and spacious with large windows and a marvellous view. We liked all, especially the comfortable bed, the bathtube with whirlpool and the ocean view. The last morning there was an awesome and spectacular sunrise with rainbow, the best ever we had. From Kaka Point we could visit easily many places of the Katlins, so we loved it. The responsable woman was very helpful and friendly, f.e. with the key and all our questions.

Beautiful surroundings we felt completely immersed in the New Zealand native bush, you can tell the property is well taken care of by the hosts, which as a kiwi i really appreciate. Loved listening to the native birds in the morning and the rustle of the trees in the wind, and looking up at the stars from our private spa, a completely relaxing experience.

We are a family with a little baby had a great night there. Everything of John's Court Motel is excellent, location is on the highway but quite. Our two bed room apartment is very clean, massage tub and comfy bed. Also, John is very nice and helpful, special thanks to him for helping me call doctor for a small incident.

It was spacious, had everything we needed in the cabin and on top a big kitchen and bbq to use for everyone. From the park we could see the see lions. There‘s even a coffee shack next door. Just perfect.

I found Kaka Point had a lovely peaceful community vibe.
I found Kaka Point had a lovely peaceful community vibe. The weather turned during my short stay there, but that didn't spoil my walk out to the lighthouse at Nugget Point. It was extremely windy with very rough seas, which made me appreciate how hard shipping must have been back in the day.

Owaka is a small village, it has an excellent Inn especially for accommodation. The village has a small but well stocked supermarket, it has two restaurants and two cafes. It is quiet and peaceful. It is well located for visits to sites along the coast. It has a modern museum that gives you information on the history of Owaka it also had an art exhibition.

The ladies toilets were not cleaned thoroughly and the lighting was very dull in the kitchen.
McLean falls are definitely worth the walk.

Lawrence is a Historic Gold field base for what was one of NZ's major gold field - Gabriel's Gulley.
It is also a stop over for Biking track and walking tours.
The access main highway also travel via many key tourist points and other Goldfields - Waitahuna Gully as an example

Loads of wildlife to watch- we saw bellbirds, fantail, a yellow eyed penguin, sealions all within a few meters of where we were staying. We walked over to Jacks Blow hole following the doc track beside the accommodation. We were down for a School reunion but have previously visited sites such as McLean falls, Purakanui falls, Surat bay, Cannibal bay, Curio Bay, Horseshoe falls. All well worth a look around. This is some of New Zealands presitine rainforest and home to many bird species as well as the world's rarest penguins - Hoiho - Yellow Eyed Penguins.

A nice spot close to Owaka for essentials and not too far from Balclutha either. We found some books in 2 shops (second hand) at Balclutha but there was also a "library" fridge just across the road from the accommodation. Also a nice coffee just at the end of the street.

Balclutha is a small rural country town, there all the facilities you need, plenty of places to eat out and shops etc. It is not a city with loads of night life. Dunedin is about an hour away It's a good base to explore the Catlins and the south of the South Island of NZ. The beach at Kaka point is only 20 minutes away there is a street food caravan serves excellent fish and chips. The drive from Balclutha to Cromwell, Queens Town, Wanaka, Milford sound and Lake Takapo are breath taking.

Amazing place and very central to all the amazing walks and sights to see in the Caitlin’s. Great pub for drinks and meals, shops, petrol and a cool playground for the kids!
The information centre/museum etc was also great with very knowledgeable staff.
