Wonderful location. Unit is even better than the listing,
We will spend more time there in future visits. Best "home base" for visiting the Catlins we have found. ( have been visiting South Island since 1988)
Excellent value!

This place was beautiful, from the moment we arrived. Everything we needed was there, the facilities were divine (loved the shower!) and the views were to die for. So easy to get into, and close to everything.

The room is quite big and the view.. just the view is worth the money.. it's very close to the beach and possibly the only eatery in the town. You can just take the stairs down for a couple of mins or just drive down. It's a very homely stay and again..the view is just stunning. Just take note they just take cash so remember to keep some!

I absolutely loved everything about this place, it was definitely one of my favourites in all of NZ! The owner is so kind and responsive, always quick to help with anything we needed. The place is spotlessly clean and tidy, and it's full of lovely little touches that immediately make you feel right at home. Everything is really well organised and well thought out, you can tell they've put so much care into every detail. And the view from the porch right in front of the sea is just incredible! I could have sat there for hours just watching the waves.
Kaka Point is such a lovely, safe little community, we felt so welcomed by everyone we met, and the Caitlins in general are absolutely wonderful to explore. Close to the place there's a really good pub as well, and the building made of wood and driftwood was such a treat, a real pleasure to see and perfectly fits the coastal vibe.
I honestly can't recommend this place enough and I'm already hoping we can come back soon! If you're looking for somewhere special to stay in this area, this is definitely it.

The reception staff were welcoming and friendly the shared kitchen was modern clean and tidy (it could have done with an extra toaster) having just the one. We were in room 312 which was a little larger than the others having a single bed in it as well but was warm and comfortable.

It was spacious, had everything we needed in the cabin and on top a big kitchen and bbq to use for everyone. From the park we could see the see lions. There‘s even a coffee shack next door. Just perfect.

Owaka is a small village, it has an excellent Inn especially for accommodation. The village has a small but well stocked supermarket, it has two restaurants and two cafes. It is quiet and peaceful. It is well located for visits to sites along the coast. It has a modern museum that gives you information on the history of Owaka it also had an art exhibition.

I found Kaka Point had a lovely peaceful community vibe. The weather turned during my short stay there, but that didn't spoil my walk out to the lighthouse at Nugget Point. It was extremely windy with very rough seas, which made me appreciate how hard shipping must have been back in the day.

Comfortable beds, nice restaurant and bar-although we only bought drinks.
The ladies toilets were not cleaned thoroughly and the lighting was very dull in the kitchen.
McLean falls are definitely worth the walk.

A nice spot close to Owaka for essentials and not too far from Balclutha either. We found some books in 2 shops (second hand) at Balclutha but there was also a "library" fridge just across the road from the accommodation. Also a nice coffee just at the end of the street.

Loads of wildlife to watch- we saw bellbirds, fantail, a yellow eyed penguin, sealions all within a few meters of where we were staying. We walked over to Jacks Blow hole following the doc track beside the accommodation. We were down for a School reunion but have previously visited sites such as McLean falls, Purakanui falls, Surat bay, Cannibal bay, Curio Bay, Horseshoe falls. All well worth a look around. This is some of New Zealands presitine rainforest and home to many bird species as well as the world's rarest penguins - Hoiho - Yellow Eyed Penguins.

Balclutha is a small rural country town, there all the facilities you need, plenty of places to eat out and shops etc. It is not a city with loads of night life. Dunedin is about an hour away It's a good base to explore the Catlins and the south of the South Island of NZ. The beach at Kaka point is only 20 minutes away there is a street food caravan serves excellent fish and chips. The drive from Balclutha to Cromwell, Queens Town, Wanaka, Milford sound and Lake Takapo are breath taking.
