The hotel is situated in a tiny picturesque village from the late 19th century by the Luster fjord, overlooking a fantastic view. It has Norway’s best breakfast with everything you may wish, and fantastic service. For extra luxury, enjoy a wonderful 4-course dinner prepared by some of our best chefs, followed by a drink and coffee in the garden. We stayed in one of the modern rooms, which has plenty of space and a nice porch on the lawn to enjoy the morning sun. This is a fantastic location with some of the more interesting hiking and climbing routes in Norway, near the Jotunheimen Nasjonalpark. We choose the accomodation in the "Swiss chalet" and this allow us to save a lot of money :-) without losing the magnificence of the place and additional services provided by the hotel like for example the very good dinner (one of the best we have in Norway). The Chalet is really beautiful and extremely functional. Clean and full of services, like the shower and the drying room.

We stayed in the motel part of this accommodation and it was comfy and super easy to navigate. We were the only ones so enjoyed having the kitchen to ourselves. The kitchen was brilliant but no pantry items around like other hostel kitchen such as salt and pepper, etc. Great dining space and warm. They accommodated our late arrival too!

A quiet village nestled at the head of a beautiful fiord with towering mountains all around. Excellent facilities including a bakery, grocery store, Mall of Norway and several restaurants, plus fast food outlets. Mini cruises available to nearby attractions, kayaks for hire and lakeside saunas. The most notable attraction is the world famous Flam Railway which climbs to almost 3000 feet a.s.l. up to Myrdal, where it connects to the Oslo to Bergen line.

Aurland is a quiet town with a well-stocked grocery and an excellent bakery. It is not a port of call for the huge Sognefjord cruise ships, so it is not overrun by tourists multiple times a day. By car, the town is 20 minutes from Flåm, 35 minutes from Lærdal via the Lærdalstunnelen (the world's longest road tunnel, at almost 25km), and 2.5 hours from Bergen. A refueling station is located just south of town, off the E-16 roundabout. It offers reasonable prices for electric vehicle charging and petrol/diesel fuel. And, it serves the best homemade soup in the area!

We had booked the Norway in a Nutshell route from Oslo to Bergen and our friends had recommended we break up the journey and stay the night in Gudvangen and I am so glad we did! It was the most beautiful town right in the heart of a fjord - the views were breathtaking and as not many people stayed the night like we did, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We didn't stay long enough to participate in any of the activities offered the next morning (kayaking, hiking or a visit to the viking museum) but I don't think you need to stay any longer than two nights. I highly recommend that you stay at least one night in Gudvangen if you are travelling through it

Flam is a very small village with lots of tourist. It is a beautiful place, don't get me wrong. I think the Nærøyfjord cruise was the best one, compared to Hardanger Fjord and Lysefjord. Unfortunately, it was super windy and rainy so we had to turn around half way through the cruise and couldn't do much of other activities as some of them had to be cancelled.

Its a place which has lots of amazing things to do, every corner has a picture perfect view. In the beginning you might feel that 2-3 days are enough but I think you at least need 5 days. Good place to stay, we went to flam and Odda. Going and coming back from Odda was little bit hectic because it was raining heavily, the roads are very small, there are some places where there is only one lane, no two vehicles will fit. so be careful at such road. The nature is amazing, flam station has good food stall, I guess all major street foods.

Sogndal is a perfect home base if you want to spend a couple of days exploring the Sognefjord. It is the right size for walking around either day or night. People are very friendly and helpful. I don't think there was a launderette in town, that I remember, and that would have been helpful.

My husband I ended up in Gudvangen because we could not find a hotel room in Flåm. It turned out that we were really lucky - Gudvangen is really beautiful, and less touristy than Flåm. Our budget hotel was much better than I expected, the local seafood restaurant was great, and the Viking village was a very interesting place to visit.
