I truly enjoyed my stay at Chipatso! I originally planned to spend just one week in Cape Maclear, but I ended up staying for eight weeks. The lodge is located in a peaceful spot a little away from the lake, which creates a calm and relaxed atmosphere – perfect for escaping the busier parts of town. That said, the lake is still just a short walk away, so you can easily enjoy the beach and the water whenever you like. The vibe at Chipatso is super laid-back and family-like, and you feel welcome right from the start. The rooms are clean, cozy, and very creatively designed, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. What made the experience truly special were the people: the lovely mamas who live on the property are so warm and kind, and the kids are curious and always up for some fun. The rest of the Chipatso team is amazing – friendly, helpful, and always there when you need something, whether it's arranging transportation to your next destination or helping you organize an activity. And what makes Chipatso truly unique is that it’s not just a lodge – it’s also a community-based organization with a meaningful mission. They run an education and nutrition program, and support single mothers in the area. If you're interested, don’t miss the guided tour with Kim, where he shares the inspiring story behind the organization and the important work they’re doing. Also, don’t miss the sunset hike to the baobab tree with Ilia – it’s absolutely worth it! And make sure to try the chicken schnitzel – so good. Thank you so much for this amazing time! A visit to the Soul Rebel Lodge in Nkhata Bay was an extraordinary experience. Its location directly on Lake Malawi offers spectacular views of both land and water. In addition to providing fascinating insights into the flora and fauna for Europeans, the easy accessibility of the nearby village also allows for exciting interactions with the locals and their culture and joie de vivre. The food at the Soul Rebel Lodge is phenomenally good; Guax, the chef, served us the best guacamole in the world, made from fresh, local ingredients. Occasional power outages, which in principle only made the trip more exciting, are compensated for by the operator thanks to a solar system. The water supply was impeccable, but you shouldn't drink the lake water. However, there is a sufficient selection and availability at the lodge bar. All of the staff, without exception, did a fantastic job and made our stay as enjoyable as possible. Great tours are also offered directly on site, which took us out onto the lake and into the surrounding area. The Soul Rebel Lodge is also an excellent base for longer excursions. We enjoyed our stay here and would love to come back.

Sound of lake all the time. Everyday you see people doing their everyday stuff in the lake. You can feel the village vibe. Sunsets are beautiful.

Best affordable place in Nkhata Bay to relax. Dorms have lake view and you fall asleep listening to lapping waves. Everyone is so friendly. Beautiful open shower adds to the experience. No problems checking in if you arrive at 9-10pm with Kwezy Bus.

We had a fantastic stay at Mgoza lodge. The room was spacious and clean. The bar/restaurant and garden areas are great places to relax and enjoy the stunning view of lake Malawi, as well as talk to other guests. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious. The local community around the lodge are friendly. There was often electricity cuts (not through the fault of the lodge) so a torch and battery bank was useful to have. We only wished we could have stayed longer!

Great location (on the lake). Amazingly friendly catering staff; went completely off-menu to source and prepare authentic "local" vegetarian food for me; and kept doing it for the whole week. Super helpful operations team were always willing to try to fix problems as they occurred (eg. bad wifi); can't blame them for others' mistakes!

Excellent beach and great swimming pool. New rooms are very nice.
