First you have to go to Aluksne to check in and get the keys, then ~6km by navigation to apartment spot. The hostess was very friendly, explained everything. Apartments are in a very strange place - in office building in a sawmill territory but it appeared to be very cozy place. We stayed for one night on weekend so the sawmill wasn't working. It was so peaceful and quiet. We stayed on 2nd floor in corner, windows to old abandoned factory building and others to sawmill yard. Room looked very spacious. All basic stuff in our room: towels, cups and glasses with kettle, hand washing gel, hair fan, TV, ventilator, many places for phone charging. Very comfortable and big bed. Enough space outside the building for parking. There's a lake and small beach with chairs just next to the building. Everything around smells like wood because of sawmill 🙂 In Aluksne you can find enough market places for food and so, gas stations, nice park near historical building, and route to walk or ride a bike by the lake and some spots to sit down.

My recent experience at Jaunsētas was nothing short of delightful. Here’s why I highly recommend this charming guest house: Scenic Location: Nestled by the serene Alūksne Lake, Jaunsētas offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle. The view from my balcony was simply mesmerizing. Breakfast Delight: The breakfast spread was excellent. Freshly prepared, hearty, and oh-so-delicious. It set the perfect tone for my day of exploration. Quiet Serenity: Jaunsētas is a haven of peace. The surroundings are quiet, allowing for restful nights and rejuvenating mornings. Friendly Staff: The staff members were attentive and friendly. We've arrived late (way after check-in hours) the host saw no problems and provided clear instructions how to find our room. Thank you, Jaunsētas, for an unforgettable stay. I’ll be back!

A hidden pearl of Latvia and Old Livonia with an island...

A hidden pearl of Latvia and Old Livonia with an island resort in the middle. Despite being almost 200 km from the seashore the city had an inspiring shore holiday feel with a great beach side island in the middle of the city. Great place to learn about the history and the origin of written Latvian language.

A very beautiful, well-kept city with many interesting sights and entertainment options for different tastes and ages - castles, sightseeing towers, museums, parks, historical train, a lake, cafes with creative interiors (Pie Martas, Ogle un Tvaiks), etc.

Clean and well kept city. Many historical places of interest. Tourist information provided in hotel lobby useful and practical. Hotel staff knowledgeable to suggest activities and festivals taking place in the city. Restaurants and coffee shops abound.
