Gwangju is the 6th largest city in Korea. There’s plenty to do and see, but is definitely at least a weekend trip. However, there is something for everybody — whether you’re into hiking, history, shopping, or eating. Gwangju is also pretty spread out depending on what you want to do/see so plan accordingly and make note of where things are! I stayed in Gwangju for a week primarily to do an event with the world famous Koran Randonneur Cycling Club. A 600k Gwangju-Busan-Gwangju. The ride started near City Hotel which is also located near the bike paths along the river. While in Gwangju I visited the very excellent Gwangju Museum of Art and the Cemetery. Gwangju publicises itself as an arts and culture centre. It has a fantastic national museum and an interesting modern art museum. A Famous K-pop star BTS J Hope) comes from there and there is a cool area with cool shops and restaurants. I would have stayed a couple more days to see some more things but my accommodation wasn't to my liking and I moved on.
