A truly wonderful experience start to finish. We booked the twin room with private external bathroom (i.e an outdoor relaxation area with a hot tub fed from the hot spring water). When you walk into the room you feel instantly relaxed. Supreme luxury and comfort. Our breakfast and dinner were included, and it was absolute fine dining, some of the best food we have ever eaten (served up in our own private dining room!) The service was second to none, we felt absolutely spoiled every minute of our stay. An unforgettable experience.

Location: It's a bit far away from Nagano Station but if plan to go to the Snow Monkey Park you can get the 2 day pass and take the express bus from Nagano Station to the park; Once you finish visiting the park you can walk 30 minutes downhill to the hotel. They also offer a shuttle to Yudanaka station once you are ready to checkout. From there travel to Nagano station via train using your pass. Stay: First time staying at a ryokan and I though it was an amazing experience. Staff were amazing, they had a few English speaking staff at check-in to explain everything to us. They had multiple private onsens offerings you could pick and reserve, so you have the opportunity to relax without others. This place also gives you the key to 9 public onsens for you to experience. Room was spacious, the photos you see are accurate to our experience. Its a 400 year old ryokan so expect it to have some oddities. Dinner: First time experiencing dinner at a ryokan and it was excellent. Staff serving dinner had limited English but did their best to explain what was being served. They were very exceptionally friendly and served us with enthusiasm. Breakfast: Excellent fresh and light morning Japanese style breakfast. There was a lot of small dishes but overall not excessive amount of food for the morning. I loved the steamed veges with accompanied sauce.

Warm welcome from our hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Great location within walking distance to snow monkey park and local town. Well appointed and spacious villa. Excellent breakfast and dinner, the latter was in the form of a tasting menu so had the opportunity to explore Japanese cuisine that we wouldn't normally opt for. On our second night we had the place to ourselves so it felt very special.

I visited to go to the monkey hot spring. It was a very clean and pleasant place. It's a little quiet and remote, but it's just as quiet and peaceful. It's a shame I arrived late and couldn't take a walk around. I left something behind, but the host contacted me right away and took proper steps. Thank you very much. It's a nice accommodation I'd like to stay for a few days. I recommend it.

Quite frankly, I’d like to move in permanently. Our room was huge, well-furnished and with extremely comfortable futons. Plenty of wardrobe space as well which we’ve found a rarity in Japanese accommodation. The private toilet, wash basin and shower are all in separate areas so it’s easy for different occupants of the room to be doing different things. Lovely yukata and happi coats provided for the stay. We had half board and the evening meal was outstanding with multiple dishes, all beautifully presented. Breakfast was good as well with a few western-style dishes alongside the Japanese ones. Plus there are onsens for guest use including an outdoor one that was just bliss in the chilly evening. I haven’t mentioned the staff. Unfailingly courteous and helpful and most of the ones we met were kind enough to speak excellent English. We stayed in October, outside the ski season, and thought it phenomenally good value. I would really love to be able to stay again.

The hostess was the most accommodating, helpful, friendly hotel proprietor I have come across in all my years of travel. When there was an issue with our booking (our fault) and the hotel was full, she went out of her way to sort out an amazing space for us to stay that night. She goes out of her way for all her guests in all facets of their stay. The great location, close to the train station, and free ski and snowboard rental gear are added bonuses.

The room was much bigger than I anticipated, and in a Japanese style (with tatami) so I was pleasantly surprised. The onsen in the hotel was an absolute delight. It had several baths with different temperatures, a lounge space, a sauna, a cold bath (which can be rare), and of course everything needed to wash yourself thoroughly before going into the baths. The hotel also provides body towels as well as face towels, so you don't need to bring yours. They have lockers to keep your items safe while bathing. There's free breakfast (little pieces of bread + some juice and coffee/tea) and a space on the first floor to relax after the onsen for example. It has wifi there as well.

Everything!! The room was stunning with its private onsen where we could customize the water temperature while enjoying breathtaking panoramic views. The staff went above and beyond with their exceptional kindness and attentiveness. A special mention goes to the onsen lady! It was a pleasure communicating with her despite language barriers. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and generously portioned. This experience truly represents everything we love most about Japan. A perfect stay! ありがとうございました!GRAZIE!

The staff, food, rooms, and osen were amazing! We booked the streetview room with the private hotspring bath. We wish we stayed longer to fully enjoy the facilities and relax at this lovely hotel. We even had yukatas and slippers to wear during our stay. The dinner and breakfast were so delicious and the staff were very kind and accommodating. They even had a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park. Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit the area.

The lounge is absolutely the highlight, here the Grand Phenix shares three things with you: great local draft beer, a gentle Okushiga snowing view, and a warm firepit. This lounge is so special that you can wait for your dinner table (because of the tight reservation in Christmas season) there while drinking your drinks by a bonfire, this even makes waiting a wonderful experience...

Fantastic stay in Yudanaka Seifuso. When we arrived the owner brought us to the snow monkey park. Dinner and breakfast were amazing. As a vegetarian I could fill in a form what my dietary restrictions are (such as no fish broth, no bonito etc.) It is located near the train station. The onsen are great ( both private and public)

The monkeys are marvellous.

The monkeys are marvellous. Of course they are attracted to the valley by the food they receive regularly but they are totally free to come and go. So entertaining and endearing to observe how they interact. The park was created in 1964. Beautiful forest in a mountainous area that grows apples, peaches and grapes and lots of vegetables. Pay attention to the hotel you choose. Avoid Hotel Housei.
