The location is great, right in the middle of Kutsugata and within walking distance of many restaurants and a Seicomart (though to be fair, Kutsugata itself isn't a large town). Staying at the inn itself was like living in a local Japanese house, which was a great experience - everything was clean and comfortable, and the inn was interestingly decorated with antiques & souvenirs the host picked up from his extensive travels. Speaking of which, Yuki was was easily one of the most thoughtful hosts I've ever had: from the pick-up to the drop-off at the ferry terminal, he was generous with tips and advice on things to see, do, and eat in Kutsugata, the rest of Rishiri Island, and even neighbouring Rebun Island. He went above and beyond to make my trip the best it could be: calling fishermen to see if they had caught any sea urchins after hearing that I wanted to try some, inviting me to come along to a ramen lunch with other guests at the inn, and calling a bike shop on Rebun Island to see if they could reserve an e-bike for me for the next leg of my trip. He was also just super friendly, down to earth, and easy to talk to. I'd highly recommend staying at this inn - it truly is a hidden gem and I have no doubt at all that Yuki will ensure that your trip feels warm and personal :).

Wonderful countryside and mountain trails for hiking.

Wonderful countryside and mountain trails for hiking. No bears which helps. Interesting museums and Samurai history. We got stuck here longer due to rough seas and ferry cancellation - BUT who would want lo leave anyway?
