FAQs about hotels in Val Gardena
Dream Valley of the Dolomites
Situated between 1,250 and 1,550 metres above sea level, Val Gardena is part of the South Tyrol region of Italy. The Gardena River runs alongside it, surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites. Populated by a Latin-speaking majority, its fabric mixes Austrian and Italian traditions.
Sasso Lungo Mountain (3,181 metres) is probably one of the most iconic symbols of the valley, while the Puez-Odle Natural Park also includes some of the highest peaks of the valley. A large part of Val Gardena hotels are in Selva, precisely because the town is located between the Sasso Lungo and the Park. Ortisei and Santa Cristina are the other 2 towns in the valley.
Val Gardena is also celebrated for the quality of its handcraftsmanship, particularly for the woodcarvers specialised in religious statuary. Nonetheless, it counts with beautiful refuges and restaurants located in the mountains, offering delicious meals accompanied with breath-taking views.
But it’s during winter that the valley offers its most renowned side: Val Gardena’s ski facilities are some of the best of Europe. The very fast Saslong World Cup track or the Sella Ronda are legendary.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 355 reviewsThis was our first visit to the South Tyrol and we absolutely loved the Hotel Maria. The central location in the traditional town of Ortisei was very convenient for restaurants and shops, and the local cable car station for accessing the Alpe de Susi (Seiser Alm) with the most breath-taking scenery and numerous hiking trails, was less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Our well-furnished, comfortable and spacious room had a balcony overlooking the beautiful square which was bustling with activity during the day and evening, and quiet at night. Our bedroom, bathroom and the public areas were spotlessly clean and we cannot fault the high standard of housekeeping. The beds were extremely comfortable too, and we we slept very well after long days walking in the mountains. The staff were superb, and so attentive and helpful, with good local knowledge of hiking trails and local restaurants. The buffet breakfast was probably the best we have ever experienced, with a huge choice including eggs, hams, salmon, fruit and local speciality breads, cheeses and pastries. We look forward to returning to the Hotel Maria one day. The hotel location and facilities, and the wonderful and kind staff, exceeded our expectations.Guest review byKatharineUnited Kingdom
- From US$491.11 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 421 reviewsOur stay was absolutely wonderful. We have been to many places and Albion is at the top of the list. We were two adult and two children (5–7) and stayed in the luxury chalets(absolutely amazing). The hotel offers free parking and free mbt rent. The outdoor pool is heated. there is a a relaxing sauna, steam bath area from ages 14 and up. The food was superb (we definitely recommend half board-all the money worth). The breakfast buffet had everything you could wish for and more. The staff in the dining area were so professional and kind. Our Nello definitely spoiled our children and us with his sublime experience in wine and food. The hotel also offered kind of free babysitting in their giant playroom. Our children begged us every evening to come down to the playroom where Norma was. The made crafts with her and played games and the loved it although they don’t speak either English, Italian nor German. Just a wonderful stay and will be coming back.Guest review byalexandraDenmark
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 43 reviewsThe owner is very kind person. As she presents the place, it is a farm house. In fact it is totally rebuild house with all modern facilities. So it is “farm” house for city persons 😉 Very nicely decorated, a lot of natural wood. Nicely located. You do not need to use any ski bus or your private car as first ski lift is at ski boots walking distance from which you have access to 500+ km of Dolomite slopes! Quiet, you can sleep well. Also undergrad parking and ski room very convenient.Guest review byAndrzej_AndrzejPoland

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 125 reviewsThe staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was exceptional. Guest menu for dinner was good value and since we struggled to find somewhere else that was open we ate dinner at the hotel both nights and were happy we did. We loved the indoor and outdoor pools. A lovely surprise was the hotel provided Lukas the walking guide for the day and we had an awesome day with him. Room was large and bed was very comfortable. This is further to my previous review on Garni Rives.
This is further to my previous review on Garni Rives. I gave the hotel a review that reflects my honest opinion, mainly about the manager/host of the hotel. Obviously my review was not received with warmth from the hotel manager. He messaged me immediately via Whatsapp and blamed me being not polite to him, I have no idea where does this come from. I believe he has broken the golden rule of being in me the hospitality industry, if he cannot accept honest reviews, how can he improve to thrive on? The hotel itself is OK and the only problem I have is the steep climb (not the hotel's fault) and mainly the manager's manner.Guest review byAnthonyAustralia - 10.0

For those who may not know, Val Gardena is comprised of three distinct areas; Selva, Ortisei and Santa Cristina. My advice on where to stay is to try and figure out which mountain ranges you plan on hitting. That said, all three locations are very close together, and you can access them all within ten minute on the same bus. Personally, I would stick to Selva or Ortisei simply because of their access to vastly different mountain areas. Santa Cristina is snuggled between the two and didn't have as much to offer, IMO.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Because of the two gondolas accessible in town, we were able to explore both sides and experience a variety of terrain, none extremely challenging which worked for our various fitness levels. The views are stupendous and the convenience of the huts along the trails for lunch, a drink or even a break from the rain were fantastic. We didn't need to worry about packing snacks or lunches, and instead enjoyed reasonably priced, delicious meals along our hikes.Guest review byCarmenUnited States - 10.0

Great base near many cable cars to get up the hills and enjoy the walking and views. Free buses between all the villages is a great help and they run regularly. We stayed 5 nights and then went over to just south of Cortina for a further 5 nights which was a really good balance to explore different areas of the Dolimites with less driving.Guest review byFrederiqueUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house!
We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house! Great location – very close to the cable cars that take you to Seceda and Monte Pana in the beautiful Dolomites. The area is peaceful and scenic, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The hosts were very kind, welcomed us with gifts, and gave us great tips on what to see and do nearby. The house had everything we needed: brand-new beds, super comfortable mattresses, and the host kindly provided lower pillows upon request. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We stayed on the ground floor – although the weather was rainy, it was always warm inside thanks to the heating. A perfect place for both active holidays and peaceful rest – highly recommended!Guest review byAntanasLithuania - 10.0

A lovely town in the valley with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants but also gave easy access up into the mountains via cable car/funicular. Also easy to get the bus to St Christina and Selva for other cables cars and walks. The Val Gardena mountains are simply stunning with plenty of great walking accessible from OrteseiGuest review byNicholasUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites.
The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites. Hotels and Apartments are plentiful and in every price level. You can choose from so many hikes (all different levels) you can fill 3 weeks. Depending what other locations are on your itinerary, 3 days allow you to see the highlights and get a sense of the beauty of the Dolomites. Yet, it's easy to fill a week. Summer like winter.Guest review byMichaelGermany - 10.0

Santa Cristina Val Gardena is an absolute gem in the Dolomites. The town perfectly balances peaceful Alpine charm with great access to outdoor adventures. It's smaller and quieter than nearby Ortisei or Selva, which made it feel more authentic and relaxing, but it still offers everything you need — cozy cafes, excellent restaurants, and beautiful walking paths right from the center.Guest review byPaweł SadowskiPoland
