FAQs about hotels in Sardinia
Jewel of the Mediterranean
This fabulous Italian island is an exclusive holiday destination, so of all the Sardinia hotels 5 star properties make up a good proportion. Several are on the wonderful Emerald Coast, known for its stunning scenery. Because of the fantastic beaches and coves, this area (Costa Smeralda in Italian) houses some of the best Sardinia hotels for families.
Amazing Emerald Coast resorts include Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo with its exclusive harbour, and Baia Sardinia. Palau overlooks the La Maddalena archipelago, a national park comprising peaceful islands. There are also several Sardinia hotels on the beach in Pula, a resort popular with locals.
Sardinia also has lots of history to explore. Close to Pula is Nora, where there are remains of a Roman town. Other Roman ruins are found in a dramatic setting at Tharros, near Oristano.
However, it’s the nuraghe - prehistoric megaliths - that are typically Sardinian. Found all over the island, these stone structures are incredibly well preserved. The most famous is Su Nuraxi in Barumini and there are several near Alghero, a walled city with narrow streets and a sandy beach. The prehistoric settlement at Tiscali in the Gennargentu mountains is most easily accessed from Dorgali.
Booking.com also has hotels in Cagliari, the island’s capital. Bastione San Remy offers panoramic city views towards fabulous Poetto beach beyond.

- From US$302.28 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 282 reviewsThis hotel was a visual delight! The staff were fantastic, going above and beyond to accommodate us when the double room we booked could not be converted into two single beds for our adult children. They generously upgraded them to a higher-priced room while keeping costs reasonable, ensuring our stay was as seamless and enjoyable as possible. The hotel truly felt like the retreat they market to and although we only stayed for one night, we could easily see the value in extending our stay for several days. Please note, however, that there are a significant number of stairs and no apparent lifts, though the staff were always ready and eager to assist. Both breakfast and dinner were exceptional, offering a true feast, and the views were simply stunning. Dinner perhaps would be a little repetitive if you did stay longer as we did not sight an alternate menu to their amazing roasted meat delight!Guest review byAnneNew Zealand
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.4Good - What previous guests thought, 540 reviewsWe had the most amazing week in Arbatax Resort - The Dune, it was the first stop on our honeymoon and we loved every second of it. The service we got is the best I've had out of all hotels/resorts I've ever been to, they booked everything what we wanted to do for us, boat tours, renting a boat for a day, spa, massage etc. Kayaks and paddle boards are free to use. Staff was super kind and helpful and we have mention Barbara in that sentence, she was definitely the person who made our stay extra awesome! Thank you so much!Guest review byÞórir HelgiIceland

Great little town to wander around with fascinating shops and great choice of restaurants. 4 of us went on a day boat trip on the Andrea Padre with Nautisub and had a wonderful time with great food and a great crew. Saw some of the caves, a few stops for swimming and saw Dolphins and Tuna . A great atmosphere and great value. The day was rounded by a fantastic meal at The Trattouria Cavour.Guest review bysockcjIsle of Man - 10.0
Olbia can be a good base for the main tours of the island.
Olbia can be a good base for the main tours of the island. Is right next to La Tavolara, close to Costa Smeralda, 30 min to wineries in Vermentino di Gallura, 1 hour from Palau and La Madalena, and 1h30 from Orosei and Baunei coasts. It is also a better city than I expected. The farthest is La Pelosa, but still at 2h hour drive. The town center is quite small, but pleasant to walk and visit. Many good restaurants tooGuest review byDanielBrazil - 8.0
We stayed 4 nights
We stayed 4 nights The beaches are spectacular some of the best we’ve ever seen in the Mediterranean. Fantastic for families with warm shallow water and soft sand backed by dramatic mountains in the distance. There are flocks of flamingos in the marshes near san Teodoro and spectacular views from the hills and gorgeous walks. The downside is the lack of beach restaurants and cafes . There is often a small kiosk selling coffee drinks and ice cream but little else so we took picnics . We really missed the ubiquitous beach tavernas you get in the rest of the Med so we were dying for a decent restaurant after a couple of nightsGuest review byRosieUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We have stayed in other very nice resorts and hotels with robust amenities throughout Sardinia and this was easily our favorite one. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and went out of their way to assist us. In addition to the hotel, we loved touring around Capo Testa and spent a lot of time in Santa Teresa which is a very charming town near the hotel. Next time we will spend more time at the beaches since an injury prevented us from navigating the rocky beach.Guest review byDavidUnited States - 10.0
The best place in Sardinia.
The best place in Sardinia. Cute Italian town with picturesque houses, great restaurants and the best gelato. We loved going from beach to beach, they all possess different qualities, but they are all lovely with the bluest water I’ve seen. You definitely need a car or a Vespa to get the best experience. Taking a boat trip for a day is also a must! Would strongly recommend spending a few days in La Maddalena!Guest review byTameshaNorway - 8.0
