The best stay of our trip! Such a special place in the heart of the beautiful Matera. We were warmly welcomed after our taxi ride booked by the hotel. Anne explained us everything about Matera with great recommendations! She showed us to our beautiful room in an old matera house. The hotel has an amazing aesthetic that resonates well with the city. The hotel is AMAZING!! For those who love the history, definitely must go here.. they offer you an immersion activity from Ancient Greek era. All rooms are authentic, original.. just like back on the past ancient time. Experiencing become one of Greek citizen with all the traditional food and beverages. They give you all day music concert and explanation of Greek culture heritage. The position was perfect in the heart of old town sassi matera, close to the restaurants, bar and not far from all the point of interest. And the most interesting thing is the ancient bath, so rarely you can find ancient Roman/greek bath in the world but in this hotel you can experience it lively!!! Really recommend for those who love to explore and become travelers! Not as usual tourist that just spend the night to stay and search for comfortable and hope to save money. What I could say more.. one of the Best for boutique hotels and experience!

Very big and comfortable room, the bed was huge and great for a restful sleep. The hotel is located at the top of the Sassi, the beautiful historical centre, making it really easy to reach the most beautiful landmarks of the town by foot. The staff are really really nice, everyone is so kind and helpful, particularly Rocco. Beautiful terrace with an amazing view, highly recommended for your breakfast in the morning if the weather permits it. I particularly loved that there are only 9 rooms, so your stay will feel even more premium.

To be honest, I was skeptical about this one. I needed to book the hotel last minute (like literally the previous night), so seeing an old-looking building (probably constructed in the 1980s) was not really encouraging BUT I wanted to see Matera, so I went ahead. The hotel surprised me and by a lot. First of all - yes, the building is old BUT all inside is renovated, so all is great. The rooms are good in size (not too small at all, just right) and everything is very clean. You have a full minibar if you want something and the hotel has a working restaurant and staff at reception 24/7. The breakfast is phenomenal (like, literally anything any traveler could want) and the staff are helpful and friendly. The best thing about the hotel is the location. Basically, there is no other hotel in Matera which is closer to the Sassi and the historical center. You just need 5 minutes of slow walking (entrance to the old town square is just behind the hotel :) ) and you are at the viewpoint and the cistern. There is a vending machine for snacks and drinks just less than 10 minutes away down the street from the hotel (in the old town) and any sights and amazing places to eat are within the same 5-10 minute distance. If you want to see the historical center of Matera, this is the place to stay (you won't regret it, trust me!). The hotel is very popular with Italians visiting Matera, so keep that in mind and if you are not travelling solo, like me, better book in advance :) The prime location comes with a single downside and a few things to consider (listing them here as they are just things to keep in mind and not something that is a huge issue) - the proximity to the Sassi means you will be quite far away from the bus station (3 kilometers) and the train station (1.5 kilometers). The distance is not that much BUT it is an uphill slope 90% of the time, so if you have a lot of luggage, better take a taxi.

I had a wonderful stay at L'Hotel In Pietra. The hotel is located in the heart of the Sassi, making it incredibly cozy and charming. The room was perfect for a solo traveler, providing a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring. The location is perfect—easy to walk to nearby restaurants. Breakfast was delightful, with a good selection of fresh pastries, fruits, and hot options. Matera is one of the best places I have visited! I highly recommend this hotel for a cozy and convenient stay in Matera!

The host was so kind and very friendly, at the first day he recommended so much "must to visit" places, restaurants where we can find the local specialities. The breakfast was really delicious, he brought us fresh pastries every morning. The room was very clean and cozy. From our balcony we could see Sassi which was very beautiful, especially in the evening.

Everything was just perfect! Our room was avalable ealier - so we could alreday unpack. Breakfast in the morning is really delicious with fresh made coffee and hot croissants!! Even I will not mention the view which is spectacular! and really 5 min to the city center. We loved everything.

The history of the Sassi and the vibe of Matera town square...

The history of the Sassi and the vibe of Matera town square on Saturday morning was fantastic. The Sassi is a photographer's dream - nothing quite like it anywhere else. We had lovely meals at every restaurant we went to and loved walking around and exploring the quaint alleyways and shops. Very friendly locals!

There were more than enough beds for the three of us at this accommodation. There was also a coffee machine there but couldn't see any coffee pods or coffee powder to make the coffee or how to use the machine, but it was great having it there.

After 12 trips to Italia, we have been to many cities (large and small), and can easily put Matera up there with our other favorites. Those favorites include ...with no apology...Florence...and a handful of others such as Siena, Verona, and Siracusa. Matera is a worthy addition to this highly regarded list. It is a little hard to describe the allure...a rockbound city in a ravine...but I cannot see anyone coming away from here and failing to be impressed by this place...

We absolutely loved Matera.

We absolutely loved Matera. Our accommodation was fantastic. We loved the location, cleanliness, the two bathrooms and two bedrooms. The kitchen was fantastic as was the large living area. We loved staying here and have already recommended this accommodation to our friends.
