- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 92 reviewsWe loved everything. Anna our host was so welcoming and the apartment more than met our expectations. It was romantic and perfectly presented. The area is stunning, the restaurant settings also, and the beach at Maltezana is just wow. Thank you so much for the people,of this beautiful island, for helping us enjoy our 10 year wedding anniversary. On a practical point of view, this area is not necessarily for those who struggle with walking up hills or steps, but perfectly manageable with assistance. There is a store in the local area with enough to suffice. Please don’t expect the range one might find in a larger cosmopolitan area. I personally visited the 7 stars restaurant earlier in the season and the welcome and service I received was exceptional. I was treated to a local seafood delicacy for free at the end of my meal and a delicious local ouzo. The view over the sea when the moon is full is to die for. From Agnadis studios you are within walking distance of another couple of restaurants just past the main Maltezana beach and over a small hill. It is well worth the walk as the local musicians, food and community are both welcoming, traditional and amazing. It’s lovely to eat and enjoy the early evening atmosphere of the sun setting, kids playing around the jetty and yachts floating gently in the breeze in the harbour. Anna will happily pick you up and drop you off from the port upon arrival and departure. Obviously advanced communication is important. I also recommend a small beach bar at the harbour if embarking or disembarking from a ferry. It’s cleverly named “Portakali” Greek word for orange but intriguingly also has words meaning great and port included. I can’t say any more, you have to experience this island for yourselves. I was fortunate to island hop this year and I can’t fault any of the islands, but this was one of my favourites.Guest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 90 reviewsWhere do I even begin? Staying at Chrysalis Boutique Hotel in Astypalea was hands down the best travel experience of my life. This place is not just a hotel — it’s a whole vibe, a feeling, a memory I’ll treasure forever. From the moment I arrived, everything felt taken care of. The hotel offers a shuttle service from the port or airport, which made things super smooth. And from there… it just kept getting better. The views are absolutely insane — like movie-scene levels of gorgeous. The hotel itself is spotless, beautifully designed, and just radiates peaceful energy. It’s also perfectly located: super close to the center, but quiet enough that you still feel like you're in your own private little Greek paradise. You can walk to town or take the local bus (they even help you set it up on your phone — shoutout to that next-level guest service!). Speaking of the team: Giannis is hilarious, super helpful and full of great local tips. And the rest of the staff? Kind, thoughtful, always making sure you're happy. I was traveling solo and they made me feel so cared for — never once alone. There were little surprises too, like a beautiful rosé wine with fresh fruit left in my room halfway through my stay... just because. Who does that? They do. Because they care. Honestly, if I could rate it 11/10, I would. It’s not just a hotel — it’s an experience, and one I wish I could bottle up and carry with me everywhere. To the entire team at Chrysalis: thank you for making me feel so welcome, so seen, and so special. You made this solo traveler feel like she had a whole family waiting for her in Astypalea. I’m already dreaming of coming back.Guest review byCarlaMexico
- From US$67.55 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 46 reviewsLovely spotless room with dedicated and helpful staff. There is no breakfast included but we found home-baked cup cakes on our verandah table in the morning and had jam, juice and crackers in the room. The restaurant is excellent and well-known. People come from other parts of the island for lunch and dinner. The beach (pebbles) is very close and absolutely incredible!!! I would definitely stay here again!Guest review byAnne-LaureBelgium
- From US$107.84 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 140 reviewsThis is the sort of place that is so lovely you almost don't want to tell everyone but keep it a secret. Every last detail had been thought out. The unexpected breakfast treats the icing on the cake. So helpful , organising free pick up and drop off at the port, even though one was in the early hours of the morning and car hire too at a very reasonable rate. We cannot thank the staff enough.Guest review byLLLDDPortugal
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.9Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 47 reviewsFantastic villa in lovely location just a few minutes walk uphill from a little beach with restaurants, 2 supermarkets and a bus stop. Lovely views from the terrace down to the beach and up to beautiful Chora with it's ruined castle on top which is lit up at night. Hosts were really friendly and brought us lovely, sometimes homemade goodies. Hope to return one day.Guest review byKarenUnited Kingdom

Maria and her team kept it immaculate while I would go to the beach, and they left me generous provisions for morning coffee. I loved it!Guest review byKentonIreland

Astypalaia town, or Chora, is a true gem of the Aegean.
Astypalaia town, or Chora, is a true gem of the Aegean. Perched on a hillside, it offers stunning panoramic views of the sparkling sea, the picturesque harbor, and the majestic Venetian castle that crowns the town. The town’s white-washed houses, narrow streets, and vibrant bougainvillea create a magical, traditional Greek island atmosphere that is both peaceful and captivating. Visitors will find the iconic windmills just a short walk from the town center, and there’s a wonderful selection of tavernas, cafés, and shops to explore, where you can enjoy authentic local cuisine and hospitality. Whether you're looking to relax and soak up the island's natural beauty, wander the charming streets, or delve into its rich history, Astypalaia town has something for everyone. It’s the perfect blend of culture, relaxation, and scenic beauty, making it an unforgettable destination for all who visit.Guest review byEvangeliaUnited Kingdom - 6.0

The town is built on a very steep hillside, with most of the restaurants and bars at the top. In the summer there is a bus that runs from the beach to the top. If you come by ferry, check the sailing times, as most are middle of the night and the main port is not at Pera Gyalos. The roads leave a lot to be desired.Guest review byMikyTUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Analipsi is a gorgeous village in Astypalea.
Analipsi is a gorgeous village in Astypalea. If you are looking for a relaxed and peaceful stay, a gorgeous clean beach, low key cafes and restaurants (lots of fish dishes and seafood) it is THE perfect place to go. No noisy bikes / scooters. Perfect for couples (not much for children) wanting a stress free break. Car hire would be beneficial to get to the Chora (a 15 minute drive) and enjoy the excellent views, and sample the lovely food. But it is possible to do without a car, using the bus or the "Astybus" which will pick you up on request.Guest review byLindaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Magical views, great food, good restaurants ( from 1/2$-$-$$) close to Livadi beach ( steep but walking distance) close to port . Cheap taxi service.5€ to get around.Astybus (electric small busses)picks you up where every you are ( cheap). Very friendly locals.Guest review byIngeBelgium - 8.0
Another cute Greek island.
Another cute Greek island. I have been to 15+ Greek islands over 50 times in total. It is similar to many other Greek islands. Small, cute. The castle and the old town looks really lovely. We went in mid-August. Although the island had probably around 5000 visitors, because there are few restaurants and options, all places were packed. Most of my Greek friends consider Astypalaia as the best Greek island, however in my view it's fine, cute, but I wouldn't say it's more beautiful than many other Greek islands.Guest review byokgagoTurkey
