FAQs about hotels in Scotland
A Rugged Jewel
With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!
The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.
The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.
The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.
As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

- From US$183.04 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 369 reviewsJust wow! The nicest BnB I've stayed in. From the minute we were welcomed at the door we felt like honoured guests. Graham showed us the beautiful rooms, all so large and airy and all individually decorated with Karen's eye for colour and style. Karen is also a talented cook. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and beautifully presented. The guest lounge is a lovely place to chat to fellow guests and the gardens are lovely. The couple grow some of their own fruit and veg. It was lovely to wander around. In the morning Graham had printed out a detailed map of a scenic route to our next destination. Great waterfalls...thanks Graham.Guest review byLisaSpain
- From US$949.09 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,175 reviewsEvery single aspect of the Balmoral is five star - from the location to the facilities and hospitality. The reception team and concierge were courteous and welcoming, and the fantastic housekeeping staff were meticulous and left no stone unturned in ensuring that the room was well appointed and well stocked at all times! The level of attention to the most trivial detail is what makes this a truly five star experience.Guest review byVarunUnited Kingdom

Edinburgh is a very charming city with the small paths that lead to great treasures. There is great history and the buildings are amazing to see. The historical sights are interesting and enjoyable. The people were all very lovely.Guest review byAmberUnited States - 6.0
Buildings in need of whitewash.
Buildings in need of whitewash. Gorgeous architecture but the drunkards in the streets and the lack of sanitation ( rubbish lying around ) brings the city down. There’s a feeling they could be great but can’t be bothered. People seem to lack ambition or direction. Super wealthy living there behind closed doors. Gorgeous indoor spaces, but only accessible to people with money. Needs a lot of work to become a world city which is a shame considering that after Liverpool it was the 2nd wealthiest city in the uk at one point.Guest review byLoreaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Your museum was excellent.
Your museum was excellent. Unfortunately some sites were closed. The pubs were great fun. The food was good, the people were friendly, and the music was great. The most amazing thing is that we could walk everywhere and we never felt uncomfortable. The signing was easy to follow.Guest review byjoanCanada - 8.0

I was only there three days on business and didn't get much time to look around which is a shame as I think Aberdeen has a lot to see and a lot of history. I was looking for a good restaurant but all I seemed to find in the town was fast food and takeaways. What did stand out was the cleanliness of the place, no litter and rubbish on the streets. If you are going there, plan ahead and find the things you want to see ;)Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

I love Fort William, there is so much to see and do in the area. Easy drive to Glencoe, Mallaig, Kinlochleven, and Loch Ness. Don't miss a trip to Corpach to see the start/end of the Caledonian Canal, its such a pretty place with great views of Ben Nevis. Also take a drive/ walk up the Glen Nevis Road to see amazing waterfalls and highland Cattle. Breakfast at 'The Highland Soap Shop Cafe' and dinner at 'The Ben Nevis Inn' are a delight for your stomach and eyes!Guest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Very friendly people. Spoke to several other visitors who were also enjoying their stay. Several good eating places and good variety of shops. We only had half a day in Stirling and could have stayed much longer. Everyone in my family enjoyed the castle very much. My children actually asked to extend the time we had budgeted to see the castle, which is the first place this happened. We would have loved to spend more time seeing the Wallace Monument and the town of Stirling, but unfortunately had to leave.Guest review byRebeccaUnited States - 8.0

V & A and the Thata restaurant for afternoon tea. Hop On Hop Off bus but a miserable unhelpful driver unfortunately. Stop off at the Law and walk to the top as views spectacular. Walk by the river. Botanic garden beautiful quiet place to relax but sadly no tea room. Broughty Ferry worth a visit as nice water front with castle and RNLI.Guest review byMaureenUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Aviemore has a great buzz about it – a proper gateway to the Cairngorms with a strong tourist vibe that makes it feel lively year-round. The high street is packed with outdoor shops, from big names like Ellis Brigham and Tiso to smaller independents, so whether you’re after hiking boots, ski gear or a new waterproof, you’re well catered for. There’s also a good mix of cafés, pubs and restaurants, which keeps the place welcoming after a day outdoors. It’s the kind of town where you instantly feel in “holiday mode,” with a steady flow of visitors giving it energy without losing its Highland charm.Guest review byAndyUnited Kingdom
