The village was fantastic and quaint. The perfect point for all adventures on Harris. Breakfast on the go was prepared for us on day one because of the trip to St Kilda, but day two made to order breakfast was wonderful . The hotel staff were the most friendly and helpful people I have ever meet. Thank you for making our stay great!!

Polochar Inn is on the southern tip of South Uist the view from the property is stunning. 360deg with Eriskay to the east, Barra across the sound to the south and North America just out of view across the horizon. 😎 The food was excellent in the morning for breakfast served in the panoramic restaurant with these fantastic views.😋😎 The staff were great, chatty and quick to fix up our room which had been set as a twin instead of a double. I would highly recommend this hotel to stay in or even just to go for a drink as the sun goes down with the waves lapping the rocks right in front of the entrances, there can't be many places with this kind of views😎👍👍👍

It's a great little place, just a short walk from the Ferry terminal. Their restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday but there was a complimentary bowl of fruit which was a nice touch. I liked that there was a "residents lounge" which, had I stayed more than one night, I would have definitely used it more. It was quiet, comfortable and a safe place to leave my luggage after checking out for the daytime before I got my bus.

Roddy and Carolanne were incredible hosts! They were both so professional and had one of the nicest homes I've stayed in. Roddy even offered to cook for us if we couldn't find dinner on a late night. We managed to find something else but his lack of hesitation to help us out in a pinch was so kind. I wish them all the best and wish we could have stayed longer.

The Uist Islands were lovely.

The Uist Islands were lovely. We were very fortunate to catch the North Uist Highland Games in mid-July. This is an area for gentle walks and birding. Dining options are good but limited. Definitely a place to unwind.

Lots to do- look into visiting the north & south area- all are within a comfortable drive. Get a map that shows the highlights- nature preserve, beaches, distilleries, standing stones, castle ruins, Uist Soap, restaurants like Politician, Charlie’s, Westford- all worth a trip. Stayed in Uist Travel Accommodation- clean, well stocked, ideal location- loved Peter & Archie (proprietors)- couldn’t ask for more! Went above & beyond to assist & accommodate! Will definitely plan a return trip!

Lovely accommodation and host.

Lovely accommodation and host. We really liked the communal kitchen which gave you lots of flexibility on when you wanted to eat. It was also nice to meet other guests. Beds were comfortable with nice bed linen and we both had a good nights sleep. We also liked that it was centrally located and easy to get to the other islands. I would definitely recommend to others.

This review is more about Lewis and Harris, Sandwick is a small suburb of Stornaway. It has an interesting memorial to HMS Iolaire. We spent 4 nights on the island. Although the weather was pretty awful, the island is lovely and we spent a fair bit of time touring Lewis and Harris. The Butt of Lewis is nice and there is a lovely walk to Eoropie bay with lovely sandy beach. We are interested in birds and found Red necked Phalorope, GND, Red throated Diver, Golden Eagle, Guillemots, Fulmars etc. Take the drive across Pentland Road it is lovely and good for birds. Sadly we didn't really have raptor weather (lots of rain). Stornaway is a bit limited - if you want to dine out book well ahead as there aren't many places and they fill up quickly. We enjoyed the Boatshed at the Royal Hotel for dinner. EVERYTHING closes on Sunday (including most of the petrol stations so beware).

Uig is full of lovely walks and beaches, and there is plenty of wildlife, we got views of white tailed eagles, and seals. Seatrek located nearby was fantastic, offering trips around the lagoon and out to the natural arches.

It’s a tiny town with a great community and lovely people who welcomed us with open arms on Halloween. Trick or treating was wonderful ! It’s very central to the islands with good access to supermarkets, and restaurants. There are great beaches close by, and wonderful wildlife.

Ness offers a typical Outer Hebrides welcome with neighbours not far away but remoteness too. The Port of Ness community is welcoming and it makes a great. Hub to see all the islands from the most northerly point at the Butt to the southerly Leverburgh on Harris if you want to travel down to the Uists.

Everywhere you look the scenery is beautiful.

Everywhere you look the scenery is beautiful. Rooms were very clean which is important to me. We asked the staff where to go and what to do. They suggested several options including the lighthouse (spectacular coastline especially in the rain), jogging, and small beaches. The restaurant on the property was particularly enjoyable. Relaxing and bountiful breakfast to start the day. We also had one of our dinners there which was wonderful.

Stornoway is a busy wee town full of independent shops.

Stornoway is a busy wee town full of independent shops. I particularly like An Taigh Ceilidh where you are encouraged to practise your Gàidhlig. Only downside there are a few one-way streets which are confusing / frustrating if you don't know where you're going.
