We had a lovely stay at this fantastic hotel recently reopened. The facilities are excellent and the staff very friendly and service minded. The location is also excellent to explore Snowdonia and the coastline of northern Wales. We would love to come back

Love the Castle and the Priors. The room no. 6 in the hotel did not have a fridge and we would have appreciated to have a fridge. If we plan to come back we would stay at the Castle or at the Priors. We found that the price for the hotel was too expensive compared to the one at the Castle. For the same, the room at the Castle was much better. But that said, we enjouée a lot our stay. We had a lovely weekend in North Wales, staying in a newly refurbished room at the Y Gwydyr Hotel in Dolwyddelan. Dollwyddellan is a short drive from Betws-y-Coed. Trains run between Dollwydellan and Betws-y-Coed every few hours. Y Gwyder is a great place to stay. Namthip and her team were really welcoming. We had a lovely room, it had a comfy super king-size bed (in room 4). Super powerful shower in the bathroom. Lovely bar, with fab Guinness (as well as other beers, wines etc). The bar is cozy, and the locals are friendly. Thai food produced by Namthip was fabulous and they had a traditional bar menu as well. Breakfast is not included in the price of stay. However, it can be arranged at an additional cost, we opted for a bacon sandwich, which was nice. They also have tea coffee, cakes etc available. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend this place / area.

Maes Y Neuadd was a stunning, newly renovated property. The location was idyllic and so peaceful/ the views around the area and the grounds were gorgeous/ Michelle, the property manager, could not do enough for us and worked incredibly hard making sure all guests were welcomed and cared for. It was only an hour to Anglesey so great for exploring Snowdonia. Having the option to eat dinner and breakfast at the hotel was so convenient. The room had an enormous bedroom and ensuite making it easy to move around with all our luggage. There is nothing I could fault this property on.

After finishing a hike on the 177-mile Offa’s Dyke, this hotel made the perfect reward. Our warm and cozy room had a great view of the ocean as the sun set. A lovely, traditional seaside resort. A great range of shops, both individual and national chains. Plenty of places to eat at all price levels. Venue Cymru is a large modern theatre which hosts a great variety of shows and events. Llandudno is also a good base for exploring further into North Wales.

Beautiful historical walled town, with everything in a condensed area, in walkable distance. Still uncommercialised and quite untouched, which makes it exceptional. Transport to other areas by train is in walking distance, hop on, hop off bus comes from Llandudno, and is a great way to see a bit more. Great places to eat drink and visit - Liverpool Arms, Albion Arms - 2 great pubs, The Mulberry and Alfredos are great for food, Fishermans Chip Shot for a takeaway. Plas Mwa, Castle, and Castle Walls were great places to visit. We will definitively be back. We ❤️ Conwy

Barmouth; if you don't know is surrounded by beautiful mountainous countryside, has a large expanse of sandy beach along a very accessible promenade. Good road or rail links. Personally I prefer decent main roads to the unpredictability of Motorways though roadworks seem to appear anywhere these days, so it can take a little longer, but the views make up for it for me. Plenty of places to eat and drink,

You can never have too long in Llanberis area!

You can never have too long in Llanberis area! The mountains & lakes are stunning, and there is so much else to explore too. Snowdonia has a magical quality to it that makes it so special. Llanberis is also a great base from which to explore outlying places e.g. during my trip, as well as completing my main goals of climbing Snowdon and Tryfan, I took daytrips from Llanberis to Caernarfon and Anglesey on one day and Llandudno & Conwy on the other, visiting castles, National Trust properties and beaches on teh way. The various driving routes to and from these places back to Llanberis were a joy in themselves. The nearby Pen-y-Gwryd hotel is so interesting, steeped in mountaineering / Everest history - although it was lovely to have the place almost to myself to look around, it is a shame it is not promoted a bit more as a place to visit for a cup of tea / place to stay.

We saw the outside stadium (had no time for a tour of that facility), bought some Wrexham football club souvenirs downtown at a bigger store than is in the stadium, and enjoyed a pint and lively conversation in The Turf pub. Met a fellow who took us downtown and did an impromptu tour of Wrexham! He was knowledgeable and good fun! Getting around is easy via walking.

With several heritage railways in close proximity and access by train, Porthmadog should be a must on any Train enthusiast ‘List of places to go’. My son has been talking about the FFestiniog railway (Rheilffyrdd FFestiniog ac Eryri) for many years. We were finally able to make the trek and we were excited to see it all. We could have spent 3-4 days going on the different excursions. Plan on getting into the Boston Lodge railway works for a tour there also.
