Excellent location within easy walk to town and local view points. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was fabulous, only stayed 2 nights but ate in hotel both evenings. Great selection of food, wine and other drinks. Breakfast was equally good with excellent variety of choice. The view from the dining room was incredible, over Cumbrae, Bute, Arran and Mull of Kintyre. Wish we had stayed longer. We will definitely be returning for a longer stay next time.

I love Irvine, the beach is beautiful and you have facilities there as well which is perfect, especially if you are taking children. I love the wee cafes along Harbour street but my favourite is Small Talk, love this cafe. The home baking is delicious! They also have a gluten free selection of cakes. I highly recommend you try this wee place. You have everything you need close by, its such a beautiful place.

We only came for a long weekend to visit family, so we did not spend a lot of time in Prestwick Town Centre. We did take cousin's dog for a walk (or she took us) past the golf course along the headland and back along the beach to the ice cream shop just off the beach. We had a lovely meal in the Italian restaurant Vito's on Main Street with family which was 5 mins walk from Gardiner Cottage where we were staying. My husband had lasagna and my mother in law and I had chicken in a mushroom sauce - both delicious!

Castle and museum were both very interesting.

Castle and museum were both very interesting. Unfortunately I travelled in October and Mount Stewart house was closed for the winter season. Town has a couple of nice bars and restaurants and is very easy to navigate. Plenty to see and do for a short stay.

Largs in beautiful for the views.

Largs in beautiful for the views. Going over too the island takes just a few minutes on the ferry and definitely worth a visit as its stunning. Fish and Chips from Fish works is the absolute best!! If you love haggis, try the viking chip shop for amazing battered haggis. Lots of different shops fro gifts and lots of charity shops if you like hunting for bargains. Beautiful little sweet shop too on the High Street. We went for the Viking Festival and although it was good, I don't think you need to spend the money on the tickets too see the burning of the boat because by the time you have got through the crowds too the ticket area the boat has already been burnt. Food and drinks at the festival stores are expensive but delicious. There are loads of market stalls there too selling all homemade items and cakes etc. The viking village is worth a visit too if that's your thing. Largs its self is lovely on a quite day. There is a large morriosns store within a few minutes drive from the centre or there is also coop and tesco express stores in the town centre. Largs is perfect from exploring that part of Scotland as lots too see within a short drive. I'm not sure about family activities as I don't have children.

This was just an overnight stop on our way to Islay from Glasgow - we took an afternoon bus to Tarbert and got private transport to Kennakraig ferry terminal the morning after. The town was lovely, with a nice castle and a couple of good restaurants as well as a pub with plenty of whisky options. We might have even stayed a bit longer had we known it was such a lovely place.

I lived in Dunoon for two years 1963-65 and the return visit with my family sixty years later was bittersweet as I remembered the vibrant village of years ago and saw too many closed stores where I used to shop but that is the nature of change. Dunoon owns part of my heart. Best wishes to the leaders there to restore the best of it and lose the shabby shops along the main street. ❤️

Greenock is fine but dreadful bus station. I was robbed by a very incompetent laptop repair shop hotspot in town centre 20 GBP for 5 mins work and job not done. The lady in charge of the waterfront took my laptop personally and got it fixed. Great service.

Helensburgh is a nice little town on the Firth of Clyde, so it has a pretty waterfront and a seaside feel, although it is on a river. It is ideal in many ways, as the trains go frequently to Glasgow and even to Edinburgh if you are so inclined. But it is also very near Loch Lomond, only 20 minutes drive and also ideally placed to drive around the peninsulas and lochs of Argyll and Bute. We managed a day trip to Bute to see Mount Stuart which was great, although a long drive, but worth it. There are some very good restaurants in Helensburgh, we liked La Barca Spanish restaurant and also the Vintage Inn pub The Commodore. The pavements are flat and well maintained, great for pushing wheelchairs(like us) or buggies.
