FAQs about hotels in Cotswolds

The Quaint Heart of England

One of England’s most quaint areas, the Cotswolds are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with rolling hills interspersed by picturesque villages with limestone buildings.

From Cirencester to Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold to Stroud, the laidback lifestyle makes this area a great choice for an escape to the country. Booking.com has some fabulous accommodation and, of our range of Cotswolds hotels, luxury and budget alternatives are covered in equal measure.

The largest place is Cheltenham, a wonderful Regency spa town. Neighbouring Gloucester has some well-preserved medieval buildings and an impressive cathedral. Some of the most photographed medieval Cotswolds sights are the Arlington Row almshouses in Bibury. To the east beautiful Burford has a high street going up a hill, Burford Priory country house and the large Cotswolds Wildlife Park just south.

More feathered friends are found in Birdland Park at Bourton-on-the-Water, a lovely village with low bridges spanning its river. Forming a triangle with it are Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Norton, whose former mill and almshouses are worth a look. Broadway to the north-west has a main street in the shade of hills, one of which has a tower from where it’s said you can see 13 English counties!

Our room was beautiful, the furniture was lovely, and the wallpaper depicting aristocratic hunting was very nice. The garden is also attractive. The breakfast overlooking the beautiful garden was excellent and well prepared with the best ingredients, and we enjoyed both the full breakfast and the Egg benedict the next day. Dinner was also very very nice. Particularly worth mentioning is that the staffs were very kind, helpful and attentive, but not intrusive. My elderly mother had a great time, thanks to the care and attention of the staffs. We enjoyed the British countryside. I would definitely like to visit again.

This was my second stay at the Dial House and it didn't disappoint!! The staff are courteous, efficient and accommodating. The hotel is visually beautiful with the architecture and design. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast and dinner in the restaurant are always delicious. And there is nothing better than a glass of wine in front of the fire at the end of the day....or in the courtyard, weather permitting!!! Perfection at the Dial House.

A beautiful old town with a stunning Abbey, plenty of shops and places to eat (lots of them independent which is a great bonus!) We particularly enjoyed the Corn Exchange Antiques market & the Friday outdoor market Breakfast at the Kings Head in the centre of town was absolutely delicious, The Thames Head near Tarlton serves high quality delicious food, we ate there both nights of our stay - Bob’s bubble & squeak is fantastic! Broadway is a lovely location for a short getaway as well as a base for a longer trip around the area. Plenty of lovely shops to browse in. It does get quite crowded on the weekends and if you are dining, reservations are a must. All the major restaurants offer easy online booking for table. I’ve roved around the Cotswolds since my University days there many years ago. So many villages, towns to enjoy , they all share a unique charm and rural beauty .. the yellow cream hues glisten in sunlight.. equally never dull in cloudy days. A strong sense of history is ever present.. held together by Church , Town Hall , Cottage Mansion .. architecture.. no litter, no graffiti.. Chipping Campden mostly encapsulates all of these qualities.

This village is less commercial than Broadway and Boughton on The Water which we visited. M in M is my preferred place to stay, The, Bell Inn provided a great social experience, the town locals are very friendly and the high street Xmas lights and market excelled our experience. Going into Stroud is not worth all the fuss and hassle.

Going into Stroud is not worth all the fuss and hassle. The multiple roundabouts pose a challenge to even seasoned drivers. The Five Valleys shopping centre is on multiple levels. I entered at the top level and it was a guessing game to find my way out if this three dimensional maze. I eventually zig-zagged my way down to the ground floor and out, wondering where the signs were. It was similarly a challenge to find Tesco Extra. On the positive side, Rodborough Common affords very beautiful views.
