Breakfast was excellent. But the real prize was the magnificent, fully lined tweed drapes in the room -- an easily overlooked touch, but such exquisite fabric in a simple, cozy little hotel room, and such a Scottish touch, too! At least one night dnner was Michelin star worthy, and all meals were excellent.

The bar staff were amazing I stayed up late drinking which I normally never do when I travel alone My father was born on Cardrona farm in 1933 and his ashes were scattered in the river just before the hotel was built , your barman and one of the chefs did a toast to him which I was very touched by , it made my stay so special The young barman was lovely and we talked about cocktails and whiskey , he was very knowledgeable for his age and made me feel super welcome I wish I could remember their names

The hotel is right in the middle of the high street, there are plenty off shops, coffee shops and a great Indian It is that bit more expensive and as it was my birthday It was a lovely treat. There are other eating places, as well as the hotel, though I didn't stay long enough to try their food, The full breakfast was amazing, plenty off other food choices. The bedroom was large and the bed was comfortable, also had tea & coffee facilities. The bathroom iwould say served its purpose, could do with an upgrade, the shower was fine, but im nit picking. Would highly recommend a stay here. The x62 takes you to Edinburgh, takes about an hr, traffic pending. There is also a theatre in Peebles called, Eastgate worth checking out what's on before you arrive. There are Several walks easy and hard and fishing if you enjoy. I like Peebles as I am not a walker, the high street is flat, so suitable for people with walking difficulties, and wheelchairs. Also has a few second hand shops, you might find a bargain. Christmas lights go on sat 29th Nov, highly recommend, you can also take your dog

Selkirk is not particularly special but it is perfectly located to visit a myriad of interesting places, the most special being the Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels. A must see, in my view even better than the Bayeux Tapestry. Melrose, Floors Castle, Peebles and many beautiful gardens are all nearby. Easy access to Edinburgh by road or train. 90 minutes to the wonderful Dumfries House.
