Spectacular views over the West Coast was the perfect place to rest on our cycle trip. The room was luxurious and extremely comfortable. Sally and Roger were very warm and welcoming. The Manor House Hotel is a charming property, with thoughtful, modern details in the rooms (direct USB connections for devices, for e.g.) and beautiful views, but what makes it truly exceptional is the team that runs it. Daniel and Beatrice were gracious and friendly hosts, but it was David who truly stood out, offering superlative, personalised service. We were a large group, including 4 teenagers, and both David and Steven were amazing in dealing with them. The adults in the group could truly relax and not worry about the kids as we could see that they were safe and well taken care of. The property also has an excellent fine dining restaurant on the premises, we had a fantastic dinner there and also great breakfasts. I must also commend the back-end staff, obviously the kitchen was brilliant, and housekeeping was spotless during our stay.

The location is so central to Port Ellen and the ferry terminal. The staff were friendly and polite, and all my emails prior to and during our stay were answered promptly. Our room was upgraded when they saw we were staying for several nights, which was unexpected but very much appreciated. The cafe right next door was very handy for drinks and snacks - the cakes were delicious! Other food offerings in town were within a 5-min walk. Above all, the bay views and gorgeous hills all around gave us beautiful memories of our stay!

The location is really good with incredible views. Breakfast is perfect with beautiful view on the lake. Staff was very warm, welcoming and makes you fill like home)), especially gentlemen at the reception breakfast desk. Parking neither big nor small, we found a spot easily and it’s just in front of the building. The building of the hotel is a bit outdated, but really taken care of! There is an amazing hiking route with stunning views, which starts just 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel. The Cobbler hiking trail.

I took a fishing rod and on the first night had bbq mackerel on the banks of Loch lomand as its very close. The hills are walking distance from the hotel so on the second day we walked up Ben ime. The views are spectacular if you have not been to the west of Scotland you willl be impressed and the location is so close to Glasgow, difficult to believe a large city is so close.

This was just an overnight stop on our way to Islay from Glasgow - we took an afternoon bus to Tarbert and got private transport to Kennakraig ferry terminal the morning after. The town was lovely, with a nice castle and a couple of good restaurants as well as a pub with plenty of whisky options. We might have even stayed a bit longer had we known it was such a lovely place.

Kintyre is absolutely gorgeous - so beautiful, unspoilt, rugged and wonderful. Campbeltown used to be a little run-down but it was looking pretty good with lots of independent shops, two distilleries and a busy yacht harbour. Campbeltown is a good base if you need buses and amenities and for shopping in supermarkets.

I lived in Dunoon for two years 1963-65 and the return visit with my family sixty years later was bittersweet as I remembered the vibrant village of years ago and saw too many closed stores where I used to shop but that is the nature of change. Dunoon owns part of my heart. Best wishes to the leaders there to restore the best of it and lose the shabby shops along the main street. ❤️

Helensburgh is a nice little town on the Firth of Clyde, so it has a pretty waterfront and a seaside feel, although it is on a river. It is ideal in many ways, as the trains go frequently to Glasgow and even to Edinburgh if you are so inclined. But it is also very near Loch Lomond, only 20 minutes drive and also ideally placed to drive around the peninsulas and lochs of Argyll and Bute. We managed a day trip to Bute to see Mount Stuart which was great, although a long drive, but worth it. There are some very good restaurants in Helensburgh, we liked La Barca Spanish restaurant and also the Vintage Inn pub The Commodore. The pavements are flat and well maintained, great for pushing wheelchairs(like us) or buggies.
