The Abbeys are stunning, the town is flat so easy to walk around. There are regular markets, the Sunday one we went to was quite big with lots of fresh food. The harbour is a nice spot with a line of bars and restaurants nearby, my favourite being an Irish bar (O'Donnells) for a well kept pint (or three) of Guinness!Guest review byRaymondUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Bayeux is a 35 min taxi ride from the ferry in Ouistraham (which is Caen on their schedule). There are busses to nearby sites (Arromanches), but usually once per day is your option. You spend a lot more time relying on the bus, but taxis are very expensive and not plentiful. I loved the town of Bayeux itself-very quaint, and walkable. I found the Tourist Information center to be extremely helpful and they speak great English. She helped me with getting the bus, where to go, and how to pay (you need 2 Euros in cash-there is no cards on the bus).Guest review byJo AnnUnited States - 8.0

Ouistreham is a ferry port - it is a small town, but a useful starting point for visiting attractions in the surrounding area. The Normandy landings beaches and sites that have associations with William the Conqueror are all easily reached from here. There are good fish restaurants in Ouistreham itself and in nearby coastal villages.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

If you are a history buff, Courseulles is a great location to explore the main D-Day sites. It is also a good spot for a relaxed family vacation as there are many interesting nature and architectural sites to visit and several excellent trekking trails in the area. As my trip was focused on the 80th D-Day anniversary, I hope to come back and experience the other attractions which Courseulles and the surrounding area offer.Guest review byMelShalevIsrael - 8.0

A necessary step in the march down from Cherbourg on the Normandy beaches expedition. First steps are the American locations, Carentan, St Marie Eglise, etc., then JUNO, SWORD, and Gold beaches, with all of the other parts in this area, finishing up at Pegasus Bridge.Guest review byWilsonUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The town is not large but is quite beautiful if you enjoy a traditional fishing port with nice restaurants, bars and shops. O'Plan B restaurant owned by our hotel host is particularly good. Within reasonable distance are some of the finest military museums from the 2nd WW.Guest review byChristopherUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This town is a perfect base to do the Normandy beaches, the museums and the Normandy countryside. Plenty of places to eat and quite a useful bus service along the coast. Not as touristy as some other places along the coast. Very near Point du Hoc, where the American Rangers stormed the coast. Well worth a visit but quite a walk although mostly flat and not much shelter on the way around. The museums in Vire Sur Mer and Omaha beach are interesting. The Calvados producer along that road is worth a visit as he has his own stories about the landings and the history of his property.Guest review byCarolbell2United Kingdom - 10.0

Quite honestly, I was drawn to Saint Mere Eglise because it was the station point for a D-Day tour my dad and I had booked. I had no clue the charm and history of this little town! The food was great everywhere we went, the museum was incredible, the people were so, so kind, the list goes on! This is definitely a hidden gem of Normandy. We visited Utah Beach on our tour, and it was packed tight with tourists. After hearing other people's experiences in Normandy, I was so glad we stayed in such a quaint town. 11/10 -- exceeded our expectations.Guest review byHannah - 8.0

Only there for one night before getting car ferry next morning, so cannot comment on local attractions. However the Royal Wok was a great place to eat within walking distance, eat in or take away. Also large supermarket very close.Guest review byLauraUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Buzzing, historic, University city with something for everyone, whether you like eating out, shopping, parks or sightseeing. For a relaxing walk go to Parc de la Colline aux Oiseaux where you'll see a beautiful rose garden. Over the road is Memorial de Caen museum which is a must for all those interested in the events of the Normandy landings and more. For architecture, see the castle, the abbeys and townhall. If you are a coeliac, you must eat at Les Gens Heureux. The menu is very small, but the quality is exceptional. Try their cheesecake in particular.Guest review byWILLIAMUnited Kingdom
