FAQs about hotels in Normandy
Remembering the Past, Relishing the Present
Bordered by the English Channel, Normandy is a sleepy French region that sees many visitors arrive via its major seaports – Cherbourg, Dieppe, Le Havre and Ouistreham.
Between these last 2 is Deauville, home to some of the most exclusive Normandy hotels by the beach. Its pristine sands and international film festival have secured its prestige for the glitterati. The surrounding region of Calvados is famous for its cider and brandy, and Normandy also home to camembert cheese.
Calvados was also the site of the Allied landings and Booking.com has a great range of B&Bs and hotels near D-Day beaches. Caen, the Normandy capital, is a lovely city that houses the Memorial for Peace, a museum detailing the effects of conflict, and World War II in particular. North of here in Bénouville is Pegasus Bridge, while the D-Day beaches span from Ouistreham to Arromanches, home to another of Normandy’s WWII museums.
Inland is the Bayeux tapestry, a huge, hand-stitched depiction of the Norman conquest of England. Off the region’s western shores are the Channel Islands, while at its south-west corner are Avranches and nearby Mont Saint-Michel, accessed via a causeway.
Other Normandy attractions include Rouen, a historic city with colourful, half-timbered houses and an archaeology museum housing finds from the Roman amphitheatre down the Seine River in Lillebonne.

- From US$182.24 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 2,662 reviewsWe loved this hotel. The staff were very friendly and always on hand if you needed anything. The pool area was perfect. Children are only allowed in at certain times so great if you were without children. But if you do have children like us, they loved the pool! The room was spacious with a separate twin room within the room perfect for our small family. We will be back the next time we’re in Honfleur.Guest review byBrandonUnited Kingdom

It is incredibly location right at the entrance to the mont st michel. We could see the abbey from our window. The room was very spacious and incredibly modern - a pleasant surprise for us! While the room had no AC, we could leave our windows open to bring some fresh air in during a hot summer day. Beautiful restaurant for breakfast as well.Guest review byLouiseSweden

The Abbeys are stunning, the town is flat so easy to walk around. There are regular markets, the Sunday one we went to was quite big with lots of fresh food. The harbour is a nice spot with a line of bars and restaurants nearby, my favourite being an Irish bar (O'Donnells) for a well kept pint (or three) of Guinness!Guest review byRaymondUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Beautiful town.
Beautiful town. The Harbour is the main feature but the surrounding area is beautiful too. We caught a bus to Trouville and Deauville which are well worth a visit. From where we were staying it was a short walk to the beach through the ‘Le Jardin des Personnalities’ which was stunning. The beach is lovely with a great beach bar with a varied menu of meals and drinks and reasonably priced. From the beach you look across to Le Havre port which isn’t very scenic and you do have tankers going down the estuary but that didn’t deter anyone as plenty of people were in the sea.Guest review byLisaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I was in Deauville for the Bridge Festival, so chose the location for that reason. However, I would say that some of the restaurants in Deauville are not great value or quality and prefer to eat in Trouville where there is better choice and value in my opinion. It is all down to personal taste, obviously many wealthy Parisians and foreign visitors like to be in Deauville, for the beach and top hotels. Relative to Trouville it is quite smart, but Trouville is more lively and overall more interesting. Next time, I will stay in Trouville although it is more of a walk to the casino.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Bayeux is a 35 min taxi ride from the ferry in Ouistraham (which is Caen on their schedule). There are busses to nearby sites (Arromanches), but usually once per day is your option. You spend a lot more time relying on the bus, but taxis are very expensive and not plentiful. I loved the town of Bayeux itself-very quaint, and walkable. I found the Tourist Information center to be extremely helpful and they speak great English. She helped me with getting the bus, where to go, and how to pay (you need 2 Euros in cash-there is no cards on the bus).Guest review byJo AnnUnited States - 10.0

We arrived in late afternoon at hotel and toured island first in evening hours - great idea as less crowded and still light enough to wander the streets and alleys. Toured the abbey the next morning - around 11. Already getting crowded - should have started earlier. But well organized and flows well within the Abbey. Well worth the visit to see this unique and historic structure - magical.Guest review byPeterUnited States - 8.0

The cafés and restaurants all serve local fare, but if you're self-catering, the market and Carrefour shops in the centre have all you need to make some interesting meals. The little shops are excellent with lots of local souvenirs, but they're quite pricey. The castle is well worth a visit, including an amazing art gallery and information about the history of the Dieppe region. There's also plenty to do in the surrounding area and some guides are available for interesting themed walks around the town. A pity the Pont Colbert is out of service as this causes lots of wasted time crossing the estuary.Guest review byEleanorUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The cliffs of Étretat are spectacular and definitely worth a visit, but note that lots of other people think that too! So there are crowds of people, tourists from all over the world in this small seaside town. Parking is difficult to find or you have to park 1,5 km away from the town center.Guest review byIEVAGermany - 10.0
