FAQs about hotels in Opal Coast
The Land of Lights, Cliffs and Dunes
Named by the painter Edouard Leveque after its unique light quality, the Opal Coast (or Côte d'Opale) is part of the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. Its stunning cliffs, sandy dunes and significant history make this region a place of great interest for tourists around the world.
The Opal Coast offers a ranquil atmosphere and truly magnificent landscapes: from wide, sandy beaches to steep cliffs reminding you of the famous cliffs of Dover, just on the other side of the English Channel. Cape Blanc Nez and Cape Griz Nez are among the most famous resorts; from the latter you can admire the never-ending stream of ships and tankers.
This popular seaside holiday destination has played its part in 20th-century history, being a place were a few battles of both world wars were fought, the most famous being at Dunkirk. It was also part of an Allied plan aiming at deceiving the Germans regarding the location of the invasion of Europe.
While on the Opal Coast, why not visit Calais, the major ferry port of northern France and, for many tourists, a starting point of their French adventure. Another popular destination is Boulogne-sur-Mer, France’s largest fishing port with a historical 12th-century belfry.
Whether you want to enjoy golfing, hiking or sightseeing, Booking.com has a perfect Opal Coast hotel for your trip.

Didn't get chance to look round Dunkerque as we were going elsewhere, so only got to see the beach briefly and enjoy a meal at a seafront restaurant, but it looks like a place we would have loved exploring so will come back one day.Guest review byVanessaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The aquarium, cathedral and old city wall’s walk were all very well worth doing. We enjoyed them all. We also enjoyed wandering through the fish markets. We walked everywhere, which was easy enough. We had very easy access to lots of good options of places to eat, from where we were, with many right on our doorstep.Guest review byTamsynUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We were there to play golf so it was perfect for that as there are 3 courses a practice green and driving range all in one area, every where was really well maintained. We hired electric trolleys on 2 occasions and a push trolley for a 9 hole round The club house had extensive seating inside and on the patio area with food and drink freshly prepared In the town there are lots of bars for pre dinner drinks and restaurants of all types seafood is popular but there is plenty of other options It is very easy to walk everywhere and huge walk areas along the side of the sea frontGuest review byGuyBriggsUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Berck is the French equivalent of Great Yarmouth, a great big beach, stuff to do and loads of beachfront flip flop shops. Le Touquet down the road is much posher but Berk was friendly and very welcoming to families.Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Nice stop over, 40 mins from Calais, en route for the south.
Nice stop over, 40 mins from Calais, en route for the south. We arrived on a late Sunday afternoon in August. It was easy to get to and small and quiet enough to get a taste of French life without feeling we'd missed too much. We wandered the streets, admiring the architecture, visited the museum as it was closing, stopped for a drink in a bar and shopped for basic ingredients at a local store. It felt safe. Perfect for a stop over. After leaving Saint Omer we drove south and stopped in Nemours for lunch, picking up picnic items from the supermarket and parking up in a big carpark on a very attractive part of the river. Would recommend as an alterrnative to the services.Guest review byRachaelUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We have visited Wissant many times before for days out and decided to stay in Hotel Normandy for this trip. The hotel is friendly and traditionally French which we liked, we ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel and especially enjoyed the set menu at dinner. The hotel is just a short walk to the beach and convenient for nearby bars and restaurants, it has an outside bar and terrace. Market day is Thursday in Wissant and is worth a look. Wissant is not a traditional destination for British tourists, but it’s one of our favourite places as it’s less commerciallised than many more towns along the Opal Coast.Guest review byKarenUnited Kingdom - 8.0
I booked our 10th wedding anniversary here.
I booked our 10th wedding anniversary here. We stayed for 4 nights and that was the right length of stay to explore the area. The food at the hotel is good, but it lacks variation for breakfast. There is not much else for breakfast around, although you might prefer to go to a local bakery for breakfast. Staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. There is public transport by bus, we came by car. Parking was not a problem on the local roads in September. I guess, it could become an issue in the season.Guest review byMartinUnited Kingdom
