Great place to stay on Camino. Instead of arriving late in Santiago, why not arriving in early afternoon after a good night's sleep. The hotel seems to be very recent. The room was of good size, extremely clean, the bathroom wonderful. The heating was on, when I arrived, pleasant! The breakfast was excellent. Close to the Camino, a large supermarket nearby, restaurants and cafés not far away. Excellent price/quality ratio. I highly recommend. I was happy that I continued this long, though would not have continued all the way to Santiago the same day.

FAQs about hotels in Galicia

Historic and Holy

A region of lush landscapes, countless coves and beautiful beaches, Galicia is the westernmost part of Spain. Long admired, it boasts incredible reminders of its first settlers – the Romans.

Lugo is the world’s only city entirely surrounded by Roman walls, and quite a sight they are. On a rocky promontory in A Coruña, the Tower of Hercules is a working Roman lighthouse. Considered the world’s oldest, it overlooks one of the region’s ‘rias altas’ – coastal inlets flanked by high cliffs.

Sheltered in another inlet is the port of Ferrol, and Viveiro around the coast has a lovely beach nestled below green hills. Another sandy beach protected by zig-zag cliffs is Ribadeo, on the Asturias border.

The most famous Galicia attraction is the capital Santiago de Compostela whose huge cathedral, firmly on the pilgrim route, is Christianity’s 3rd most important. Unsurprisingly, the city has the most 5-star Galicia hotels on Booking.com, though it’s smaller than Vigo which has a replica of the ship that reported America’s discovery.

The castle in nearby Baiona overlooks a beach, and Pontevedra slopes down to the sea. The undulating coastline continues to O Grove, known for beautiful beaches and hot springs. Thermal waters are also in Ourense, near the stunning Sil River Canyon in the hilly interior, home to most small hotels in Galicia.

The Cathedral is a must, as is one of the daily Mass sessions (I'm an atheist but still appreciate the architecture and the rituals). The cathedral roof-top walk is worth attending, with beautiful views. However, it is also worth noting that the guide explains everything in Spanish, which is a shame. They could provide earpieces which translate into your language of choice. Santiago is a very easy city to walk around. There are plenty of good restaurants & tapa bars. I had a great piece of Veal at The Steak House is worth visiting.

A truly wonderful place to visit, lot's of things to do from sitting at a cafe or bar watching the world go by, or just walking around the many old streets and coming across some fantastic buildings, churches or statues, you are spoilt for choice for eating due to the many restaurants serving up some superb dishes. There are a few beaches you can visit with beautiful golden sand, would definitely recommend Praia Azul, an outstanding beach with a beautiful promenade that has a few cafés & bars along the front.

A Coruna was perfect for a 4 night holiday. We enjoyed exploring the town and coast by foot from our appartment on 2 days. Pretty city with lovely river walks and the old town was gorgeous. Beautiful churches and basilicas which were free to visit. The restaurants were excellent and a wide range of cuisines. It was a bit hectic driving around town and parking on the street was difficult. However, there were many inexpensive carparks available. The people were friendly and learning a little Spanish before visiting this region, will go a long way.

Arrived in the dark so didnt see much, however next day gave us a pleasant surprise that the city centre was smart, good quality shopping, there was a film festival on and everyone looked wealthy. On our return visit 10 days later we enjoyed the main square bars, people watching and evening tapas sat outside the many bars and restaurants, great atmosphere

Lugo is a great place with its intact Roman constructed wall that completely en circles the old city. Since it is not a major tourist destination, it is not jammed with people. We had our most reasonably priced dinner here during our two weeks in Spain. I would probably go here again and spend less time in Santiago.

I was pleased with my time in Arzua. I was tired. It was a long hard walk with a 40 lb pack on my back, so reaching Arzua and having a clean comfortable bed with a private bathroom and the promise of a hearty breakfast the next morning was a bonus. Also I learned that I could have someone courier my back pack to my next destination was a very welcome piece of news.

O Pedrouzo is a small town on the way to El Camino De Compostela. We only needed to stay one night and that was enough. I'm not sure if there were much to do in town. We tried two restaurants El Bule and Galaicos that serve traditional Galician food. Prices were fair and food was good.

The lodging is very new and quite easy to stay in.

The lodging is very new and quite easy to stay in. The beds were comfortable, it was a safe area. The kitchen was decent, the air conditioning worked well (important during this stay as it was hot in CdR). It seemed to be quiet so getting a good nights rest was easy. There are dining amenities very close and there is also a produce market if you are inclined to make your own food! The wifi was a little dodgy at times. We used the washing machine and the clothes drying rack which made our stay there very productive.
