Location: This smart new hotel opened 8 months ago in an historic building in a quiet street (at the time of our visit) immediately off the central square of Jihlava. The superb location is atmospheric, close to all sites of interest. Room: There are 13 rooms, each different, and each large. Our rooms were attractive (we had 301 and 303). The beds and pillows were comfortable. There is air-conditioning. Everything works well as this is a newly appointed hotel. There is a lift. Staff: Martin and Jan, very charming, are young business partners whose families hail from this area. They voluntarily took us for a half-day tour of the town Polná, helped with tourist advice, our dinner arrangements, and taxis. Breakfast: The special feature is that the ground floor is a smart cafe with patisserie and delightful staff. The breakfast (part of our booking) is a la carte and exceptional - they have 4 chefs! See my photographs. Open: 7.30 am to 7pm, serves for lunch and coffee breaks. Comfortable and well-appointed. Dinner: We had dinner 3 times in a restaurant across the square called TŘI KNÍŽATA, where the food was excellent, with much choice. Again, delightful staff. Local things to do: this town is lively and close to many Moravian towns and hikes. We were dropped at the Stump lake and walked to Telc via castle ruin (~17 km using an online map). The countryside is beautiful. Jihlava is a mecca for Mahler lovers (composer). The Mahler museum in his original home off the square is an outstanding museum. There is an unusual zoo just down from the city walls in the valley where Mahler used to walk. There are many churches including the Gothic church at Jakubske square where Mahler sang as a boy. We located his school, theatres where he performed, the Jewish cemetery where his family are buried, the site of the former synagogue now the Mahler Square, and birth place in Kalište, 30 mins drive away. There is a tour of the oldest silver mine in Czechia, under the square.

Beautiful view from the window to the lake next to the hotel. Exquisite frog choir in the evening. Friendly staff. Special room for bicycle parking. Lot of small things that will make your stay very comfortable and even luxuries. High quality hygiene products. Generous breakfast. Unattainable level of comfort just for 46 EUR for 2 guests with breakfast. We would really like to stay longer, but unfortunately we have to leave.

It is a great old town with plenty of things to see, especially if you are into historical sightseeing and lovely nature/surroundings. Just make sure that you come at the right time. Due to our trip to the Czech Republic in January, we did stop in Znojmo, but were a little bit surprised that most of the sights have April-October opening time.

If you want to get off the tourist track, try Jihlava! The town itself has a charming square that is not stuck in time - this is a normal Czech town with a super ugly shopping center right in the middle of the square. Also in the center, there are tours of catacombs under the town and a zoo. Jihlava also makes a good base for day trips around southern Czechia (such as Telc or Trebon).

Such a pretty town!

Such a pretty town! Its enormous square, which is really triangular, is lined with pastel coloured arcaded houses. It is very pleasant to walk in. At the end of the square is the castle which has an interesting history and lovely rooms. There are many cafes & restaurants in the town. Not too many tourists which is great. We ate at Zachariah’s in the main square and the food was traditional Czech at very reasonable prices.

Trebic is well worth a visit.

Trebic is well worth a visit. The Basilica of St Procopius is an architectural gem and the Jewish Quarter has been beautifully preserved. Public transport is best managed from other large cities by bus, as train journeys often have to be broken with complicated changes. Not so good for those of us who are less mobile. I took the Flixbus from Brno in the morning and was in Trebic in an hour. The next day I took another bus to Prague and was there in two hours. If you're taking the Auto Bey bus from Trebic bus station to Prague you need to know it leaves from the side of stand 3, but technically outside the bus station, so the connection isn't on the departures board in the bus station building. The town is in two halves on both banks of the Jihlava river, so don't miss the town square and the church of St. Martin, or the painted house. Trebic also seems to have one or two good cafes as well - always good when you're walking around and need some refreshment.

The town was just the right size for a three day visit. We had our dog with us so no museums or galleries were on our list but we were welcome everywhere else. We'd highly recommend Víno Kára (only food available are meat and cheese plates) and Winebar Chatka for their wines (but not for food at all).

Jihlava is a quiet small central european town. It has a lot of charming architechture particularly in the old town and areas near there. The locals were helpful despite my not speaking Czech language. The journey here was for me to see someone I care about deeply which is why I could have stayed far longer. Getting around Jihlava is really simple. In the heart of the old town everything is a short walk to you. However for those further afield areas there is a public transport system including trolley buses.

Telč is an exceptionally beautiful small historic city with original, very well preserved houses from the Gothic period, reconstructed to the current appearance in the Renaissance time. It is, therefore, rated as UNESCO world heritage. I can recommend its official website https://www.telc.eu/ for all further details. I have been there many times since my first visit to Czechia in 1993, and in particular since I am living in this country permanently since 2014 - it is one of the places I show to almost all friends who visit me. To see most of it, daytime and nighttime, staying at least two half days with a night in between is optimal.
