- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 555 reviewsFrom the moment you first walk into the Tifakara Hotel lounge, you begin to experience the highest quality in customer service offered by this charming, unique hotel, which just happens to be home to hundreds of birds and trees. My friend and I were early for check in; however, Allan, the receptionist during the morning shift, offered to store our bags, prior to welcoming us to use the pool as well as the restaurant. We headed to the pool and shortly after Allan came to tell us our room was ready. We stayed in the balcony room with views of the volcano and beautiful greenery from where we were able to watch all species of birds fly by us as if no one was actually there. Amazing! In the morning, as we entered the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by Dylan, the most charming and service oriented waiter I have encountered in a long time. The lady behind the counter greeted us and kindly introduced us to the choices we could make regarding fruit juice, coffee and delicious pastry. This hotel is for couples, families, people that are looking for a bird watching heaven that offers a night tour through a magical garden filled with frogs and a few snakes. Why not? Moreover, if you are looking to hit the Fortuna Waterfall early, this is the place to choose. Yes, beautiful infrastructure to say the least; nonetheless, to me the finest customer service there is. Enjoy your stay fellow travelers. Before I forget, last but not least; the girl that cleaned our room found clothes I had carelessly left behind. She immediately packed it for me in a small bag and made sure she gave it to me before I left the hotel. Sweet? Yes!Guest review byCRSpanishCosta Rica
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,075 reviewsOur stay at La Tigra Rainforest Lodge was truly a highlight of our Costa Rica trip. Having visited multiple places across the country, this one stood out as the most memorable by far. The food at La Tigra is simply amazing, with each dish crafted with care and attention to detail. From the quality and diversity of the menu to the beautiful presentation of the plates, it was a culinary delight at every meal. Our room was beyond amazing, boasting a stunning view of the jungle that made us feel like we were in a dream. Not only were the rooms impeccably clean, but we were pleasantly surprised to find warm water—a luxury in the midst of the rainforest. The entire experience felt surreal and truly special, something we know we'll never forget. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, taking the time to explain everything clearly and ensuring that our every need was met. Their genuine hospitality made us feel right at home. One of the highlights of our stay was the frog tour, which we had the pleasure of experiencing twice—once in rain and once in dry weather. Each time was a unique and magical encounter with Costa Rica's incredible biodiversity. The journey to La Tigra was an adventure in itself, with the scenic drive requiring a 4x4 vehicle and a leisurely pace. But the anticipation of what awaited us at the lodge made it all the more exciting. In conclusion, La Tigra Rainforest Lodge surpassed all our expectations and left us with memories that will last a lifetime. It truly was the most memorable stay of our trip, and we can't wait to return someday.Guest review byJolyneNetherlands
- From US$324.31 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 568 reviewsWow... where to begin. My boyfriend and I went there to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary and The Royal Corin went above and beyond to make our experience incredible. I would put this resort in my top 3 best hotels for the staff and service alone. The staff had a "yes" attitude and made us feel very welcome and taken care of (they were honestly amazing from the doorman, reception, to the cleaners). The towel designs on the bed, the little notes, balloons, strawberries and chocolate, etc, were the little things that made me feel very special on my birthday! On an allergy note, the restaurants were willing to adapt the meals as I am gluten free. The breakfast buffet is not celiac safe but the chef will make you a separate breakfast (whatever you want). Shout out to Jonathan who was an amazing server at breakfast (he went out of his way to find me some GF cereal to eat so I wasn't left out). It's amazing that this resort doesn't have day pass guests and is also adult only. The main pool is a lovely hot temperature and the pool bar is super cool! They even let you order food from any restaurant, straight to the pool. The Junior Suite was spacious and had a nice view of the volcano.Guest review byOliviaAustralia
- From US$252.10 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,334 reviewsThis is a luxury stay with a super swimming pool and several volcanic water hot tubs to relax in. The food is the best i have ever had. Even the kids meals are freshly cooked and super healthy. We did several tours, ones not to miss: the hanging bridges and the volcano hiking tour and the walk to la Fortuna water falls (go early, 2km uphill from the hotel!) and Ecocentro Danaus at night or during the day. Amazing hotel i highly recommend! The hotel acts as a one stop travel agent and is very good at it!!! I booked not only tours but also transfers and the nights at la Tigra Rainforest Lodge and all was perfectly organised even to the minute.Guest review byKatherineSwitzerland

We loved the various hiking trails, one even led to a water fall where you could swim, so bring your swim suits! We saw so much wild-life nearby on our walks including coyotes, toucans and monkeys. The room was spacious and very comfortable. We loved every meal and found the staff to be super friendly and helpful, wish we could have stayed longer!Guest review byCristinaIreland

We enjoyed the area and while we did a lot including driving to Monteverde for zipline tour, we chose one day of pampering rather than adventure so did not hike around Arenal or paddle board on Arenal. We did white water rafting between Puerto Viejo and Fortuna. We did waterfall repelling near Fortuna (amazing). The people are friendly and the area is lovely. We enjoyed a night time nature tour with our hotel (Noah's Landing) and Nayara Gardens was amazing. We saw plenty of sloths but so much more! We went to the Mistico hanging bridges on a rainy day which worked well-it did not matter. We also visited the Fortuna Waterfall (500 steps down-then 500 steps up but worth it!) If you like adventure- there is plenty. If you want to relax-it is a beautiful place to do so.Guest review byTamiUnited States - 10.0

Our trip was mostly rejuvenation, health and to access the volcano and hot springs. We went to Arenal park and hiked the trail to the Volcano. We saw a Capibara but most other wildlife is best viewed in the early morning. There were a lot of orchids in bloom along the trails. Going to EcoTermales Hotspring was the highlight. It's a gorgeous naturally constructed spa with layered pools, waterfalls all built with stacked granite rockery, bridges and pathways connect the pools, and there's plenty of seating, an open bar that serves the best mixed drinks. The restaurant served fresh healthy assortment of seafood and meats with veggie dishes with dessert at Lunch. The water was fed from the natural hotspring, which was circulated , refreshed constantly with fresh volcanic water. Attention to the holistic elements of nature were throughout. Staff and Service were top notch.Guest review bySuZImageZCanada - 10.0

This is a great area to experience Costa Rica and the wildlife. We visited Mistico hanging bridges (great with a guide as located creatures we would not have); La Fortuna waterfall (no guide needed); Sky adventures (aerial tram, zip lines & trails); sloth guided tour; Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails (day pass with lunch) - all of which we would recommend!Guest review byAmandaUnited Kingdom - 8.0
It is difficult to get around in Costa Rica.
It is difficult to get around in Costa Rica. They have on main major highway and you must get off that highway to get to Jaco and Fortuna. The roads are windy and it takes forever to get somewhere. It took us 3.5 hours to get from Fortuna to San Jose and it is less than 100 miles. This is due to the windy roads which are typically one lane in each direction. However, it is a beautiful drive. Just be prepared! If you are in the Jaco area, do not miss Villa Caletas. Has an amazing view. We stayed at the Marriott Vacation Club at Los Suenos in Garabito. It is a beautiful property.Guest review byDenaUnited States
