We love the operator's proactive and genuine helpfulness. From the moment we were expected to arrive till check out. The location is fantastic. We were thankful we chose to stay here 1st to experience the area before moving to the busier part of the island. The whole place is really perfect for a relaxed holiday. After our trip, we all agreed that it's the Xiamen people who are the real highlight of our trip. Everyone we met and interacted with was so warm and welcoming. I would recommend a night on Gulungyu Island to really take in all the island has to offer. Also, it best to come in the shoulder months of summer as the heat made our trip less enjoyable.

Nangan is a little treasure - an ecological wonderland...

Nangan is a little treasure - an ecological wonderland rolled into a frontline venue for Chinese-Taiwan conflict. There are lots of military sites to visit including the amazing Beihai tunnels. I did much walking on both Nangan and Beigan - including villages with their stone houses. Pity I couldn’t get to see the sika deer or blue tears. Can’t see everything.

What a beautiful, hidden gem!

What a beautiful, hidden gem! Im so glad we came here...it wasnt the typical tourist spot which is exactly what we were looking for. Seafood capital of China for a reason! Delicious! And the people are curious and friendly!!!

Great city with beautiful parks and museums and places of...

Great city with beautiful parks and museums and places of interest. Not a huge city by China standards, but this makes it easier to explore. All the modern shopping areas are there, Wanda Mall, cinema, numerous places to eat and some fantastic street food. Well worth a visit.

We truly enjoyed our two day stay on Beigan.

We truly enjoyed our two day stay on Beigan. The owners of our homestay in Qinbi, 芹壁幸福海岸民宿-民宿編號051, were very hospitable. Beigan is a nice combination of nature, culture, and military history. The highlights of our stay were hiking the Luoshan Nature Trail, eating lunch at 金魚水手作坊, drinking tea while enjoying the views from our homestay, taking the ferry to see the sika deer on Daqiu, and getting to see the "blue tears".

It´s not really worth the travel time.

It´s not really worth the travel time. Not really something special to see there, only if you´ve seen everything else. The so called town center (Xiamen Island) is 30-40 minutes away from Xiamenbei (Xiamen North) railway station. Try to get a connection to Xiamen station (it´s on the island). To the Hakka Roundhouses you can go easier directly.

We came to Nangan to hike one of Taiwan's Small 100...

We came to Nangan to hike one of Taiwan's Small 100 Mountains, however we got so much more from our stay. It is a beautiful scooter drive around the island. We enjoyed exploring the small villages with stone houses as well as the historic military locations. The highlight was a hike through the geopark followed by an evening of photographing the "blue tears" right, both just outside of our amazing homestay, Matsu Seaside View Homestay.

Compared to the main island of Nagnan.

Compared to the main island of Nagnan. Beigan is more authentic and quiet. Nangan does have more to offer, in terms of comfort but Beigan is more authentic. Definitely check out the stone villages. It is easier if you have a scooter, but you can rent a taxi for the day or take limited bus schedule.
