How close it was to the bus station as well as to the main area of town. Also the man who works there went over and above the call of duty and walked me to my 3:30am bus so I would be safe!

Amazing place! Away enough to be able to walk or bike to the Main Street without the notice. Peaceful, amazingly beautiful! The interior dedig is cozy and nice, the color palette gives you peace and tranquility. The whole staff is more than amazing! They go beyond what is needed to make you feel at home! It is like being in your own home, you can cook if you feel like it, breakfast is amazing! One of the best stay experiences I have ever had.

Quiet, clean, thoughtful details such as tea times and wine tastings each day. The aesthetic blend seamlessly into the environment and was such a relaxing reprieve of the first and commotion of downtown San Pedro de Atacama. But the staff set this place apart and is what elevates this hotel to a 4-star status. Accommodating, friendly and professional. Can’t say enough good things about them all, especially the concierges.

★★★★★ Exceptional I rarely write reviews, but UNAI Atacama deserves recognition as something truly extraordinary. This isn’t glamping—it’s a sophisticated luxury retreat where every detail has been thoughtfully designed to create magic in the Chilean desert. Don’t let the word “tents” mislead you. These are beautifully appointed bungalows that happen to feature tent-inspired rooflines and windows as an elegant nod to desert camping. Inside, you’ll find simple luxury: a spacious bathroom with double sinks, separate WC with bidet, rain shower with excellent water pressure, and a gorgeous large soaking tub. The interior showcases beautifully hewn desert wood and ceramic artworks that connect you to the local landscape, while maintaining sophisticated comfort. Maria’s design philosophy is genius—rustic minimalism that amplifies rather than competes with the desert’s natural serenity. The first morning, I woke to a perfectly framed view of an extinct Andean volcano, positioned like a living painting in my window. As the sun rose through that same frame, I realized this wasn’t just a lovely accommodation— it was theater designed by nature and enhanced by human artistry. Maria and Pablo, the hosts and owners, have transformed hospitality into an art form. They have created something remarkable: a culture of genuine care that permeates every interaction. This goes far beyond standard luxury service. When I mentioned interests in birdwatching, wellness, and astronomy, they didn’t just nod politely—they arranged personalized experiences that became trip highlights. Maria even arranged a visit to a local ceramicist’s desert studio, connecting us more deeply to the artisanal culture reflected throughout the property’s design.

I drove into town from Calama and arrived at night.

I drove into town from Calama and arrived at night. Big mistake. The place is so disorienting especially when the directions app WAZE sent me straight through the heart of town thick with people in the streets. This is a party town and people are serious about it. There is much to do in this part of Chile and lots of tours you can sign up for. If you’re driving make sure to keep an eye on the gas gauge as there’s only 1gas station for 100 miles. Also, I stopped in Calama and bought provisions at the Unimarc and made sure to get and carry WATER with me. I took 4 gallons. Bring a hat, the sun’s intense. Enjoy!

La Portada is worth visiting. The Huanchaca Ruins Museum unfortunately does not have accessible parking. The parking space at the entrance off a busy avenue has been blocked off with large boulders. Why????

They waited me long time during check-in, even there is no customer in the middle of night. Their credit card machined didn't work, they asked me cash. I offered them to pay with USD but then they directed me another lobby to make this operation. That was totally mess. In addition my corridor was noisy at 5AM in the morning. That's not a nice experience for me.

The town and tours were incredible.

The town and tours were incredible. We have left feeling that we have been to a truly unique destination. Everyone was super friendly, the tours organised to ensure pick ups went smoothly with drinks and nibbles in the most awe inspiring places. We were also fortunate to have brilliant guides and drivers. Importantly, we feel that this is a destination that would suit the more nervous traveller as everyone goes out of their way to help and guide.

I came to Calama for a day to take the Chuquicamata Mine tour and didn't do much else. It is a modern city with very an efficient public transportation system. It was a real hardship to find information on how to book the tour. The Edificio Caldelco website was totally inadequate in directing visitors on the process of reserving. I will post the current info on how to reserve the tour when I get home.

San Pedro de Atacama was one of the most beautiful surprises from the 65 countries I’ve visited. I can’t recommend it enough. Nature is truly at its finest here, with breathtaking contrasts everywhere you look -- from otherworldly landscapes to serene lagoons and dramatic geysers. The beauty is endless, and words barely do it justice. A destination that stays with you long after you leave.

My staying in Calama was just for one night while travelling from Uyuni to Santiago, catching a flight at the nearby airport. I've walked the streets for a little bit during the day, I felt safe enough but didn't see anything interesting. It's dusty outside.
