Nice lake view and easy way to have a nice walk up to the mountains as the hotel is situated up the hill almost above the town. All the hotel rooms & public places really elegant, lake & mountain range view from my room was just outstanding. Also enjoyed to follow with eyes a train climbing a hill. Everything is so picturesque here. Definitely would like to come back

The breakfasts offered a nice variety, and the dinner selections were awesome. We also enjoyed the location, being so close to the promenade as well as the bus stop. Amazing and super well located hotel in the very heart of Montreux. Its Belle Epoque style interior is simply breathtaking, full of unique century-old furniture and pieces of art. The hotel management kindly upgraded us to a lake-view room, which was extremely nice and sweet! The room itself was very spacious, beautifully designed, bright and contained all the necessary things, but the real cherry on top was definitely the view from the balcony overlooking the lake! That view was so stunning, it made feel like a character of some high budget romcom! Room was cleaned thoroughly every single day.
Great breakfasts which take place at the beautiful old classy restaurant with waiters kindly serving you beverages on demand. The selection of food was good enough to satisfy nearly every taste and preference, including salmon, Swiss cheese, vegan options and plenty of fruit.
The garden of the hotel is absolutely something! Super neat, well-groomed and having it all to make guests completely relax on warm sunny days spent swimming or just chilling by the lake, as entry to the lake is just as you leave the garden.
Hotel Rene is a pure esthetic delight in all regards! So highly recommended!

We had a fantastic stay at Hôtel du Grand Lac Excelsior.
The first thing that struck us was how helpful and friendly the staff were, nothing was too much trouble for them.
The hotel itself was clean, there were areas that possibly could be updated, like the carpets in the corridors, but I'm being picky there really, because it didn't affect our stay, and the overall decoration of the hotel was beautiful.
We stayed in a suite and it was perfect for our family of four, it was comfortable, with two bathrooms, a sliding door onto the garden, and It was very cosy.
The location is the real drawing point, eating breakfast at a window with views of Lac Léman and mountains was breathtaking, I've never had such a beautiful view when eating before. My 5 year old daughter said it was the 'best day of her life'!

It was so conveniently located in the old town and the 206 bus which you can’t eke directly out from the railway station drops you outside the door.
Stefan was so helpful and for a poor French speaker like myself he spoke impeccable
English and was a brilliant host. We spent a lot of time in markets for Xmas so didn’t eat at
Hotel but the layout and atmosphere looked relaxing.
The room was clean and well set out and I loved the wide opening window
It’s a small room but the layout is clever use of space
The heavy duty doors and stone walls mean it’s a quiet room and blocks out other people’s noise
I will be going back for sure

After visiting bigger towns, Montreux was a refreshing...
After visiting bigger towns, Montreux was a refreshing quieter cousin. Made the most of the Montreux travel pass. Allowing free bus and train travel as far as Vervey. I would suggest when travelling by train further afield to get help from the ticket office, as this will save you money.
The free Queen Studio tour is worth a visit, located in the Casino.
Boat trips are a must, we did a circular 2.5 hr one and it was worth paying the small amount extra for the first class.
Chateaux Chillon is worth a visit, and only a 40 minute stroll back to the town, along the beautiful shore of lake Geneva.

The Community of Veytaux is at an excellent location towards...
The Community of Veytaux is at an excellent location towards the east end of the Lake of Geneva. Although the community is small, you can do a lot from here.
The Chateau Chillon is in the political community of Veytaux. The chateau is impressive; and its visitors can learn a lot about the history of this region of Switzerland.
Further east, you can visit Villeneuve and can take a steamer boat cruise on the Lake of Geneva. - The Swiss Train Pass helps to save a lot of money when you use the trains, the boats, the gondolas, the busses, etc. throughout the country.
West of Veytaux is Montreux. You can enjoy the lovely community of Montreux alongside the lake, go up the Roches de Naye and enjoy the beautiful view over the Lake of Geneva, take trains in diverse directions (e.g., Gruyère, for the cheese factory tour, maybe combined with a tour at the chocolate factory of Caillier, the Golden Express yo Interlaken, etc.).
If you like train traveling, you can easily travel to Geneva and see the old town, visit the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, go up to Brig and see its old town or visit Briggerbad and its thermal bath and waterpark, or even go up to Zermatt if your an early bird and go upon the Gornergrat or up on the Small Matterhorn.
Veytaux is a place to stay at and see; and, it can "base camp" to see many more places in the greater region.
Just have the right train pass so that you can easily use the public transport network and comfortably travel to different sites of interest.
Eating out and enjoying your companionship while being served a good meal is possible as well.

The castle was an extraordinary experience. It brings us out of our common sense place.
Wonderful view at front side terrace of big tower, we enjoyed our evenings there.
Peaceful morning breakfast at our back terrace, surrounded by trees, perfect place for morning yoga meditations.
Beautiful room, large, a kitchen supported staying longer at the place. A nice table inside was great for the rainy days.

Great location to explore the Swiss Alps. Magnificent scenery, "a postcard at every turn!"
We visited in early December and they had had snow.
Would definitely recommend a trip on the Mont Blanc express to Chamonix. As well as a trip to Glacier 3000, both offering stunning views of the Alps.
A car is a must to appreciate the location.

Montreux is a beautiful town, located on Lake Geneva, surrounded by mountains. Great dining, lovely flower lined promenade stretching for several kilometres along the lakeside. Great train services to many parts of Switzerland, especially the Golden Pass Express, which runs between Montreux and Interlaken, travelling through amazing landscapes,
Special mention if you are a Queen fan is the Freddie Tour, which is an amazing tour and commentary about the time that Freddie Mercury and the band spent in Montreux's Mountain Studios, and the town, visiting locations where they hung out, and learning a true insight to Freddie. Will certainly return to this fabulous town.

It rained while we were there, so it put a bit of a dampener on our stay. We still caught the bus to the funicular and walked all around the town and waterfront, still beautiful city even in the rain!

Visiting Montreux has been such a delightful experience. The city is very clean, with beautiful gardens that invite you to stroll and enjoy every corner. People are kind and welcoming, which makes the stay even more special. Definitely a place I would love to return to.

What a beautiful lakeside town & so easy to get to from...
What a beautiful lakeside town & so easy to get to from Geneva airport, using local trains. We ate in a different restaurant each evening and all our meals were excellent. My sister, a runner, ran alongside the lakeside and we also took a kayak out on the lake.
We were there to take a trip on the Golden Pass Express from Montreux to Interlaken but hadn't wanted to stay in Montreux itself. Vevey was the the perfect town for our stay. Very easy to get around and to get to and from the station. All the people we engaged with - at the station and in shops and restaurants were very helpful and welcoming. We would love to visit again.
