The weather was still cool, rainy and very windy, but I think this is something to expect in Melbourne. But getting around in Melbourne & St Kilda was great, easy accessing trams, South Melbourne markets and Queen Victoria markets were overwhelming. Great to have a car so you can explore outside the central area of Melbourne. I recommend a lot of patience if you have never driven in Melbourne, the roads can be confusing, but it is easy to get around. Geelong has a lot to offer with some great restaurants, cafes and pubs for meals. Well located if you want to travel to other places like Lorne, Barwon Heads, Queenscliff, but want more reasonable hotel rates, Geelong is more reasonably priced. Good shopping and great waterfront. Bendigo is quite a surprise if you haven't been there.
Bendigo is quite a surprise if you haven't been there. The main thing is the grand colonial style you see everywhere, all remnants of the rich gold rush times. The city park is not to be missed: enormous trees, perfectly manicured lawns, a water cascade and an amazing mosaic round the pop head on top of the hill. There's also a large fruit bat colony. Bendigo Art Gallery is soso, depending on which exhibitions are on at the time. Really enjoyed the Paddle Steamer excursion and gaining an understanding of the 'lock system' along the river. People were friendly and helpful. Best dining experience was 'Enjoywine Char Grill & Bar'. Amazing food and great service. Also, really enjoyed the visit to Wentworth Gaol and the Wentworth Pioneer Museum - really interesting! Easy city to navigate, sightseeing venues central, easy to locate. Staff in shops professional & friendly, happy, good service is shops. Good range of shopping & eateries available, only criticism would be that we couldn’t find a coffee shop open after 4pm on Sunday, apart from the RSL. Botanical gardens worth visiting. Walks, exploring, R and R, shopping and eating out. We loved walking out on the rock jetty and talking with local fishermen. Enjoyed Marriners Lookout, great sea views and vegetation of the area.
