FAQs about hotels in Tasmania
Laidback Island of Incredible Landscapes
Perhaps most famous for the deceptively cute-looking Tasmanian devil, tranquil Tassie, as it’s affectionately known, boasts some of Australia’s most impressive landscapes.
Most 5-star Tasmanian hotels are in its historic capital Hobart, a beautiful city cascading down slopes towards the sea. Its highest points offer far-reaching views towards the bay’s lush islands and headlands. The furthest headland shelters Port Arthur, a former convict colony touted as Australia’s answer to Alcatraz.
Just outside the capital is Richmond, home of Australia’s oldest bridge. To the north-east is Swansea, across Great Oyster Bay from the Freycinet Peninsula, site of stunning Wineglass Bay.
Bicheno has a sweeping, sandy beach, while St Helens beach further north is protected by land outcrops that are birdlife havens. To its west Launceston features the large Queen Victoria Museum and beautiful Cataract Gorge. It is also the gateway to the north coast resorts where many cheap hotels in Tasmania are located and available to book on Booking.com.
One such resort is Devonport, the arrival point for ferries from Melbourne. Burnie also has a port, and is linked by a coastal road to Stanley whose narrow promontory ends in a rock called The Nut. South is wonderful Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, and to its west is the sleepy town of Strahan whose backdrop is the mountains covering south-western Tasmania.

- From US$95.75 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,461 reviewsIt was a lovely cabin. It was clean and had everything one would need for a short stay, (except perhaps chopping board). The bed was comfortable. The cabin was warm when I got in, thank you. There were some nice little biscuits and chocolates in the fridge as a treat. Thank you. It was easy to find. The keys were left out with good instructions. Thanks. I thought it was a great little cabin and I'd definitely stay again. I enjoyed it.Guest review byGinaHong Kong

Such a beautiful, historic and interesting city which we thoroughly enjoyed exploring. The traffic was easy, people kind and friendly, food and coffee delicious and lots of local, independent shops to visit. The history was so interesting and we really appreciated the beauty of the buildings. The tourist board has done a fabulous job of making the European history come to life, and did not shy away from the the effects on the indigenous inhabitants in each area without embellishing or dramatising the facts. The staff at these places were deeply engaging and highly knowledgeable and their passion was infectioius. We left Tasmania knowing we will return, so thanks to everyone we met for making our too short visit a wonderful experienceGuest review byMarina BarkerAustralia - 8.0
The Tasmania Zoo was a wonderful place to visit.
The Tasmania Zoo was a wonderful place to visit. The animals are nice and close. The animal experiences you can have are awesome. Driving to George Town to watch the Fairy Penguins leave the water is a terrific experience, very close to the penguins! Cataract Gorge is a great place to explore either on foot (plenty of walking tracks) or on a boat tour!Guest review bymickytillAustralia - 8.0

Not many cafes/food shops were open when we arrived with the Spirit of Tasmania. We enjoyed the space of a 2 bedroom cabin. We only stayed one night & that was enough for us to get a taste of Davenport,Guest review byMariaAustralia - 10.0
The selection of walk was excellent.
The selection of walk was excellent. Signage for access to some of the walk was not optimal. There needs to be a display of weather information for the day, which walks are closed and more prominent information on dress attire.Guest review byMarcus VowelsAustralia - 10.0
Bicheno was a great base to explore the area.
Bicheno was a great base to explore the area. We were sad we did not see any penguins. We had take away fish and chips at Tasmanian Coastal Seafoods which was beautifully cooked and delicious! We also had dinner at Le Coq and wow, was the most amazing piece of steak that melted in your mouth.Guest review byDeborahAustralia - 10.0
Everything about St Helens was beautiful.
Everything about St Helens was beautiful. We really wish we could have stayed alot longer. We had breakfast at the The Lifebuoy Cafe which was awesome!!! Everyone absolutely loved the breakfast (5 stars) and excellent coffee. We also loved visiting the Bay of Fires and found this lovely beach "Squeaky Beach". This place is a must visit for people touring TasmaniaGuest review byMacdonald - 10.0

The day tour river cruise on the red boat up the gordon river including Sarah island was perfect and great history lesson provided by great guides. The nightly performance of the play ‘the ship that never was’ was really good fun and complemented the tour. Great food options in town and a great cafe near ferry wharf to kick off the day.Guest review bySeanAustralia - 10.0

We visited outside the peak periods so tours were much more pleasant than full boats and queues. Loved the location of our accommodation away from the township. Be aware that there are limited supply choices in the general stores.Guest review byBronwynAustralia - 8.0
Swansea is a small seaside town.
Swansea is a small seaside town. The interaction I had with the local people was very informative and pleasant. It is a very quiet town, excellent if you are looking for something very restful. We were there in late September with the weather still chilly. Walking in the area is great as I had experiences with an echidna, potoroo and blue tongue lizard. We went to Coles Bay, Freycinet and Bicheno on a day trip.Guest review bymickytillAustralia - 10.0
You need a full day.
You need a full day. The cruise is included in the entry and very informative. You can book various tours and take a walk around by yourself. For those with mobility problems a free buggy will take you to various sites. Some places have steps. There is a great cafe that sells hot or cold food and drinks a gift shop ad a dining room for nght time meals. There is a lovely Cafe and museum at the lunatic asylum along with restrooms. Make sure you have your camera ready as some beautiful birds throughout. Wear comfy shoes and be prepared for quick change in weather. overall it is a very great insight in the harsh conditions convicts endured. Enjoy.Guest review byCherylAustralia
