We really enjoyed our stay here. The setting is gorgeous and the room is comfortable and well equipped. The food in the restaurant was delicious and all the staff were absolutely excellent with their service and communication. Unfortunately we didn’t get all their names but Ethan was one! Check in was quick and efficient. Room was ready upon arrival. Room was clean and tidy. I am glad I went for the more unique stay in this restore Victorian mansion than in a standard hotel-gives the guest a taste for the beautiful architecture can be found within the city. Views from the window were great, overlooked the river and the city center. Centrally located and within walking distance to restaurants, shops, museums.

Tasmania highlights

The Bay of Fires

Bursting with colour, the Bay of Fires hosts beaches dotted with giant boulders cloaked in striking orange moss and sapphire waters for diving, swimming and snorkelling.

Cutting edge art at MONA

The Museum of Old and New Art offers a feast for the senses. Accompanying the impressive gallery is fine dining, a library, cinema and even an on site winery.

Cradle Mountain National Park

Hiking is the best way to explore the natural beauty of this area, where rugged mountain ranges reflect in the waters of glacial Lake St Clair and snowy peaks appear in winter.

Whitewater rafting on the Derwent River

The Derwent River is a prime spot for adrenalin-packed whitewater rafting. Even beginners can join in on the easier runs, while the pros can try out the fast-moving waters to test their skills.

FAQs about hotels in Tasmania

Laidback Island of Incredible Landscapes

Perhaps most famous for the deceptively cute-looking Tasmanian devil, tranquil Tassie, as it’s affectionately known, boasts some of Australia’s most impressive landscapes.

Most 5-star Tasmanian hotels are in its historic capital Hobart, a beautiful city cascading down slopes towards the sea. Its highest points offer far-reaching views towards the bay’s lush islands and headlands. The furthest headland shelters Port Arthur, a former convict colony touted as Australia’s answer to Alcatraz.

Just outside the capital is Richmond, home of Australia’s oldest bridge. To the north-east is Swansea, across Great Oyster Bay from the Freycinet Peninsula, site of stunning Wineglass Bay.

Bicheno has a sweeping, sandy beach, while St Helens beach further north is protected by land outcrops that are birdlife havens. To its west Launceston features the large Queen Victoria Museum and beautiful Cataract Gorge. It is also the gateway to the north coast resorts where many cheap hotels in Tasmania are located and available to book on Booking.com.

One such resort is Devonport, the arrival point for ferries from Melbourne. Burnie also has a port, and is linked by a coastal road to Stanley whose narrow promontory ends in a rock called The Nut. South is wonderful Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, and to its west is the sleepy town of Strahan whose backdrop is the mountains covering south-western Tasmania.

I felt safe travelling alone. There is much to see and do. Princess Theatre for a show was beautiful. Kings Park was lovely. Had a fantastic meal and a Tassie wine at the Kings park bar and restaurant. Many choices of places for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cataract Gorge was great. Didn’t visit Penny Royal adventure park but it was a nice easy walk to get to. Nice and close to Launceston airport for getting to and from accommodation.

Bicheno is reminiscent of WA's iconic Margaret River but smaller and without the price tag! Lovely wineries, beaches and access to National Parks. Excellent seafood. Food shopping is a bit grim tho with only one poorly stocked IGA, so if you're driving recommend taking your own food. It's very close to Hobart, 150 Ks or so and a lovely drive to get there.

The cottage had everything you needed. The rooms were large and the beds were very comfortable and plenty of towels. I did appreciate the selection of teas you left. It was lovely watching the rabbits out of our large windows. Even though the weather wasn’t good I still enjoyed my time in this cottage. Thank you

Cradle mountain is beautiful and wonderful.

Cradle mountain is beautiful and wonderful. We have been there on several occasions including when we were engaged. The environment is peaceful and probably better in the cooler conditions (Like now) when there are fewer tourists around. The rain adds a special feeling when walking around Dove lake. Plenty of pleasant walks around cradle mountain.

The local cafe in Coles Bay was great, perfect coffee, great pastries, service with a smile. The roads are in excellent condition and you can drive all day without encountering issues. I would suggest a visit to Bicheno for lobster rolls (Lobster shack) and oysters (Marine farm). The walk up to the viewing platform for Wineglass Bay was worth the 400+ metres of steps. The sun is super strong, plan ahead.

We arrived at the motel and the receptionist said don't forget to go and see the penguins tonight of which we knew nothing about. They come into the beach and nest under the boardwalk and purpose built nesting areas in November. We were taken with about 15 other people along the boardwalk where the penguins were waddling to after dark around 8:45. So worthwhile.
