We had the best time here. The cottage was really cozy, kitchen was well equipped for us to whip up a simple dinner for 4. The fireplace was a godsend as it got very cold that night. It was pitch black when the lights went out, but the stars were brilliant, simply breathtaking. Beds were comfy, we had the best sleep, so therapeutic listening to the waves.

Top notch in every way. Spotless, comfortable room. Friendly, considerate and generous host (the breakfast was truly and traditionally big, wholesome and delicious). One of the best B&Bs I have experienced in Australia. Highly recommended.

Where do I start! Our whole stay was amazing from the information we received ahead of our stay, easy check in, the location and comfort of our cottage, the view and all the extras like chilled wine, beer and water. So quiet and comfortable, so soothing just to enjoy the view across the water.

Beachside down that’s quiet, but has lovely beaches, as well as a great pub (Southport Tavern) with an adjoining little chippy / shop that has the basics. Fishing on the jetty or on a boat (easy launches from the boat ramp) is always a staple activity. On winter Saturday’s, the Rocket at the End of the Road cafe is a winner.

Southport has the last fuel facilities in southern Tasmania,...

Southport has the last fuel facilities in southern Tasmania, and is too small to support a supermarket, but if you're looking for peace and tranquility in a bushland/forest setting, and friendly, helpful locals, it's a great place to set up base. Visiting Hastings Caves and (warm) springs, and Cockle Creek, are not to be missed. We stayed at Southern Forest Accommodation, a self-contained cottage provided by a lovely couple who really care about hospitality. We were able to cook our own meals, and apparently the nearby hotel also offers meals, which we did not try, but otherwise the nearest restaurants would be in Dover.
