Not only was the location very accessible to all the amenities in town, but the historical building was also exceptionally gorgeous. Practically all the luxuries of a contemporary hotel (the ones that matter), with the beauty and ambiance of Australian history. The staff are very accommodating and friendly, making the experiece that much better! Highly recommend if you are ever visiting New South Wales Great Western Plains!

We loved our time in Orange.

We loved our time in Orange. We stayed two nights, but only had one full day to experience the area. We were amazed by the number of wineries in the area, and could have spent a couple of more days. There are great spots to sight see as well. Unfortunately our one day was rainy, but that didn't detract from the great wines and produce.

Parkes is a town on the move with an increasing number of contemporary facilities reflecting that fact. It remains essentially a hub for the surrounding rural and mining industries but has become more versatile in its approach to handling people from outside of its catchment area.

The BEST coffee and light meals are at (127) Kendal Street Coffee Shop at the top of the hill next to Tech Mate (phone repair guy). ALSO, the rose garden collection at the visitor information centre on the western side of the Lachlan River bridge. Not forgetting, the beautiful Japanese Garden at Ken Nakajima Place - a MUST to visit, especially in autumn. The 48km drive out to Wyangala Dam is well worth it for a BYO picnic.

We enjoyed visiting the Sculptures Down the Lachlan - many huge and impressive sculptures. There were also sculptures around town and lovely gardens in the public parks. Forbes has many historic buildings, in good condition. You could go bird spotting, with hides built to give good views of masses of birds on Lake Forbes. We had dinner at Club Forbes, a function one night and the bistro the next. We also did a guided tour of the Aussie Biscuit factory in town, which provides employment for local people with disabilities and makes great biscuits!

Gulgong is unique, many buildings are original .

Gulgong is unique, many buildings are original . The Mayne street is still narrow as in the Cobb and Co days. The people are friendly and the museums are incredible. A shame it is still not on the back of the ten dollar not. If you are visiting Mudgee wineries . Gulgong is a must for a visit. The pubs are great and The Silver Fox Café was great for coffee and lunch. Enjoy your visit.
