We loved everything about Gasthof Maria Plain! We had no idea where it was located in relationship to Salzburg, but we had admired the church from the road as we came in. Imagine our surprise when we saw we were going up that hill towards the church. Parking was easy & convenient. The second surprise is that the hotel had its own charming Christmas market. The rooms were clean & comfortable, & every room had a breathtaking view. The fact that we arrived after a big snow storm just added to the beauty. It was a short & inexpensive cab ride to central Salzburg. The restaurant had a good menu, great food & reasonable prices. Breakfast was very nice. The staff were very friendly & helpful. We will be back next spring!

You couldn't get the location any better. Everything is just top notch. The vicinity, the lake nearby, and the staff are nothing short of amazing. Weather and the nature around the hotel made the stay more memorable. The hotel sits in the middle of a village and the peace is so mesmerizing. Ski in, ski out, just few steps or few steps to a bus station both direction - to cityXPress or Trassexpres.Two swimming pools, large sauna world. Children were excited about the huge playground area. Large room, we stayed in the new building in Junior Suite. Just perfect.

The location was perfect! Right on the water, high walkability to the surrounding little town, excellent access to the lake, in the path of the running/walking/bike trails. Feels secluded due to the large size of the building and orientation of rooms to the rest of the building. The room was so lovely, we loved the design details and super spacious closet.

We were surprised that many shops were closed on weekdays. Parking in the city is a little bit difficult. Clean, beautiful location, friendly people. Very hard to dine in the evening, mostly pizza, döner and thai food available only.

It is a residential town so not much atmosphere or amenities...

It is a residential town so not much atmosphere or amenities other than hotels. It suited us very well as it was very peaceful. Driving or taxi into Salzburg is the best option. Otherwise a bus or taxi to an out of town shopping centre plus a bus from there. We parked out the out of town shopping centre for dinner and got a parking ticket. It was not well advertised that we should have paid for parking. Nothing to do with the hotel but be warned!

I loved Bad Gastein’s mix of Belle Époque elegance and wild mountain scenery. Mornings meant hiking and cable-car views; afternoons were for soaking in the thermal waters; evenings, cozy bars and great food. The waterfall running through town gives the whole place a dramatic energy. It felt like stepping back in time without losing modern comfort—truly a memorable stay.

A very beautiful destination, we were alone on the mountain ridges most of the time. We would definitely like to return. For swimming, we recommend the lake in Zell am See rather than the local swimming pool, which is quite small and completely crowded.

A village in beautiful scenery that lacks something. Accessibility of services (hiking, lifts, restaurants) was a bit confusing. Many services did not have clear English instructions/price lists/online shops. The Tyrolean region summer card seemed to give you a much wider range of services than the Salzburger region.

Plenty of memories, plenty of relaxation, plenty of beautiful and peaceful sceneries, and every year people are being nicer and sweeter. The town keeps developing and renovating that can be noticed in every visit.

Sankt Gilgen was lovely - picture postcard beautiful with plenty to do to keep us busy (lake and mountains walks, boat rides, trains, cable cars). Visiting in September, we found it very quiet at night with very few restaurants open, particularly on a Monday and Tuesday. Finding somewhere to eat on spec is difficult and we would strongly recommend pre-booking if you want to eat out.

It was beautiful and compact with plenty things to do, museums to visit and trips to do outwith the city. The Salzburg pass was well worth every penny, I took the 2 day option and saved a lot of money. Bus travel is free for visitors and can be applied for from your accommodation prior to travelling and therefore you can travel from the airport to the city for nothing. The city museum is closed though for the next 2 years but there are plenty of smaller museums to visit. I really enjoyed a seat and a glass of wine at the modern art gallery. I'm not a big fan of modern art but the view from it and the walk to the St Augustines brewery was a must do. It's a magical city.
