What a hidden gem! Beautiful surroundings. Really nice and comfortable rooms. The staff is really nice, they even had a baby cot and baby chair for our little girl. The food is one of the best! My hosts couldn’t have made me feel any more welcome. They are kind and generous. As a single female traveller I felt very secure in their compound. I strongly advice you book your safari with your host. He’s a confident driver with a keen eye for leopards. Don’t think saving money will serve you well, take a private tour. The guest house is situated close to the park and near to the road the dissects the park. Take an evening safari on the road if you can. The accommodation is very clean. I found it hard to leave these lovely people.

Every unit features a private bathroom and shower, air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a fridge. Tranquil wild lived up to its name. It is right next to a lake with water buffalo in it. There are heaps of birds including peacocks and hornbills in the garden plus lots of monkeys, squirrels and lizards around. The garden is huge with mature trees and plenty of space. You can walk beside the lake and do a little exploring, really nice at sun rise or sunset. The swimming pool was excellent for a bit of relaxing. Anne and Amal were fantastic hosts answering all our questions and organizing our safari and other activities. I recommend having Amal on your safari. He is full of info and has a big camera lens to get those close ups the cellphones can't do. Their safaris go into block 5 and 6 which are a lot quieter ( in terms of jeep numbers) than the main Yala block 1. We saw elephants, crocodiles, monkeys, lots of birds, and 2 leopards. Also if you have the chance to have dinner and bonfire down by the lake shore then do it, we got lucky with a stunning night and full moon rising. The food, including breakfast was really good. If you are looking for somewhere to relax with nature then this is it.

What made our stay truly special was the incredibly friendly and attentive staff who made us feel welcome and cared for from start to finish. This resort offers true value for money, and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone planning a stay in Kataragama. We will definitely return!

Situated in Galgamuwa in the Monaragala District region, Redstone Cottage Gal Oya has a terrace and mountain views. There is an in-house restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. Outdoor seating is also available at the campground. This was honestly one of the most welcoming and thoughtful places we’ve ever stayed. From the moment we arrived, Sydney and his team looked after us so well. The chef asked what we fancied and was very accommodating. He cooked the most amazing curry, lunch and honey hoppers for breakfast (which we were introduced to and absolutely loved). They even gave us a packed lunch for our elephant boat safari, which they organised, along with a great driver. There were little extra touches that made such a different, like beers in the fridge when we arrived (and they went to get more when we ran out), a cooking class with a local family, a really interesting forest walk with an indigenous guide and when we asked if we could do some laundry they sorted it for us with no trouble at all. The cottage is in a beautiful, quiet spot with amazing Mountain View’s, a perfect place to switch off. Would highly recommend supporting this amazing project. Such a great experience 😊😊

Boasting river views, coconut camp udawalawe provides accommodation with a garden and a balcony, around 12 km from Udawalawe National Park. There is an in-house restaurant and free private parking. The luxury tent features an outdoor fireplace and a 24-hour front desk. It is a great experience to stay at coconut camp. It is surrounded by nature and you can fall asleep to the sound of a little stream running just in front of your tent. The tents are very clean and luxurious but the best thing about the place is really the great hospitality - I can warmly recommend to have dinner there, it is a very special experience and so delicious! Also breakfast is really outstanding and I enjoyed my Safari with Sanda a lot. I saw a lot of Elephants and I am grateful he recommended me to stay one more night to be able to do Safari in the evening time (cause the the elephants go to get water and you can see more of them) and visit the Elephant Orphanage in the morning - that was such a beautiful experience! I felt very well taken care of and warmly welcomed, I am very grateful I stayed there and I can only recommend to go for this experience!
