Located just 45 minutes' drive from Sligo Airport, Kilronan Castle Hotel & Spa features an indoor swimming pool.On-site spa and a fine dining restaurant. Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel. This hotel was the highlight of my trip ! ... From the minute we walked in we were welcomed by amazing lady on Reception (I think called Maria) ... She personally took us to show us where everything was and saw us to the lift. I mentioned in passing that I had sadly been unable to get anything booked in at the Spa and she promised she would sort it and get the spa to call me..... Which they did within 10 minutes and arranged a slot for me. The Castle is STUNNING !! ... The Drawing Room (which is casual dining) is stunning and you are made to feel like you are the priority even when they are busy. Dungeon bar was great and took our drinks through to the Library and sat by the open fire .. honestly it was 1000% worth the cost. I would not normally spend this much on a room but it was such a special experience I would highly recommend to anyone wanting something special ! The grounds are stunning, we did a short walk around as it was freezing outside but there are lots of trails. Breakfast was great and very well organised. Yes is was expensive .. around £16 for a cocktail, but so worth it for a WOW experience.

Although we arrived late in the evening, Marie was welcoming and showed us to our very clean room. She asked us at what time we wanted our breakfast and had a full Irish (and some 😃) ready for us the next morning. Her homemade scones and brown bread were sensational. Out the dining room windows we saw their new calf and met Patch, their terrier mix dog. Marie gave us tips, maps, and info on what see in the area and gave us a tour of St. John’s old schoolhouse that is also available to book for a stay. It’s adorable! I can’t say enough about Marie and John’s hospitality and kindness. I hope to see them again if I make it to Ireland!

Located in Castlerea and only 20 km from Roscommon Racecourse, Lisalway Country Lodge provides accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. The whole stay in Lisalway Lodge was outstanding from arrival to leaving, the hosts Pam and Tommy were really flexible with us even though we arrived very late due to travel disruption. The whole house was amazing, clean, bright, well maintained, our suite was luxurious, the breakfast was so good, with a great choice, Tommy bakes the bread it was so delicious you’ll never taste anything like it, his scones are also delicious. We felt very well looked after and a little spoilt when our hosts found out it was our honeymoon. I can’t recommend this place highly enough, it’s everything you want and more including fantastic hosts

The property is sitting on its own with a beautiful front and back garden. Including a helicopter pad in the back garden which one of the owners Ronald was more than happy to show us and tell us the bit of history behind. The other owner Maureen was such a delight to talk to and get to know also. This property is not a house it is in fact a home! My partner and I felt welcome from the minute we walked in the door and will most certainly be staying here regularly over the coming months. Not to mention the absolute softies Bailey, Bonnie & Clyde. I have never come across more calm and loving dogs!

Doris and Kevin were the perfect hosts, beautiful home and the breakfast was fabulous, great nights sleep. Rooms bigger than you would expect and to be woken by birdsong was an added extra. The local pubs were about a mile or so down the road with a harbour if you fancy a walk.Athlone town only 10 minutes away if you fancy a more lively night out taxis available. All in all a great find and most definitely would recommend and hope to revisit in the near future.
