The hotel is a great base to explore Kumano Kodo. Location is excellent - at the heart of Kumano Kodo, near Hongu, right on the main bus line, great for hikes. The hotel has very nice Japanese style family rooms, with great views of nature. Dinner (kaiseki - tasting style) was fantastic and very good value for money. Breakfast also rich (you can choose Japanese and western). Bonus - the hotel also has own "onsen" - Japanese hot bath, including two private family rooms and two big open air bath. Using the onsen is included in the room price. Moreover, staff is very helpful, speak solid English and will take you to with a shuttle to a better bust stop for the ride to the Kumano Kodo trek.

The private, unobstructed view of the Torii gate itself is worth booking this place for. But on top of that, it’s a spacious, beautiful traditional Japanese house. Easily the most beautiful stay of the trip. There’s a great ramen place and konbini (convenience) store just a few mins walk down the road. Adumaya Ryokan is the perfect way to explore Yunomine Onsen. We stayed two nights as part of our hiking route through the Kumano Kodo, and coming back to Adumaya to relax on its multiple baths was one of the highlights of our trip. The ryokan is a deep and layered blend of history and tradition; the service is unbeatable, the dinner incredible, and the experience a real treat. We particularly appreciated the above-and-beyond help they provided to ensure our next leg of the trip was seamless.
